தாஸஸ்ய விஞ்ஞாபனம், இன்று தையில் மகம் ,திருமழிசைப்பிரான் திருநக்ஷத்ரம், எல்லோரும் கொண்டாடியிருப்பார்கள், ஸ்வாமிதேசிகன் இவரை அதிகாரஸங்க்ரஹத்தில் மழிசை வந்த சோதி என்கிறார். இவர் விஷயமாக ஸாதித்த பாசுரத்தில் இவருக்கு இடும் விசேஷணம் மற்றைச்சமயங்கள் பலதெரிந்து மாயோனல்லால் தெயவம் மற்றிலை என உரைத்த வேதத்தின் சிறந்த ஸாரார்தத்தை உரைத்தவர் என,. இவர் அனுக்ரஹித்தது நான்முகன் திருவந்ததாதி மற்றும் திருச்சந்தவிருத்தமுமாகும், மிகவும் அர்தபுஷ்டியுள்ள ப்ரபந்தங்கள்,இங்கு பரமதங்களை கண்டித்து ஸ்ரீமந்நாராயணனை பரதேவதையாக ஸ்தாபித்துள்ளார்.ஸ்வாமி தேசிகன் கொடுத்த விசேஷணத்தை முதல் பாசுரத்திலேயே காணலாம், நான்முகனை நாராயணன் படைத்தான், நான்முகனும் தான்முகமாய் சங்கரனைத்தான் படைத்தான், வேதாந்தம்-உபநிஷத்து கூறுகிறது, நாராயணாத் ப்ரஹ்மா ஜாயதே, நாராயணாத் ருத்ரோ ஜாயதே என, படைத்தவன் ஜகத்காரணம், ந ப்ரஹ்மா நேசாந என்பதால் மற்றவர்களல்ல,ஸ்ரீமந்நாராயணனே தெய்வம்,

காரணம் து த்யேயஃ என உபாஸகனால் எம்பெருமானே உபாஸி்க்கத்தகுந்தவன் என்பதும் கிடைக்கிறது,ஆக முக்தியை கொடுப்பவனும் முக்தனுக்கு போக்யமும் எம்பெருமான் என ஸித்தமாகிறது,இவரைப்போல் மற்றைச்சமயத்தை பரமதபங்கம் முதலிய க்ரந்தங்ளால் கண்டித்தவர் ஸ்வாமிதேசிகன், ஆதலால் இவரிடம் விசேஷமான பஹுமானம், ஸ்வாமிக்கு கலியனுறைகுடிகொண்ட கருத்தடையோன் என விசேஷணமிருப்பினும், திருமழிசைப்பிரானிடத்திலுள்ள பஹுமானங்களை அவருடைய க்ரந்தங்களை உத்தரிப்பதின்மூலம் அறியலாம்,
ப்ரப்ந்நன் பரந்யாஸம் செய்து மேலுள்ளகாலத்தில் செய்யவேண்டியவைகளை குறிக்கும் காலத்தில் 1,வாசித்தும் கேட்டும் வணங்கி வழிபட்டும் பூசித்தும் போக்கினேன் போது ,சாஸ்த்ரங்களை படித்தும்,, அதினர்த்தத்தை ஆசார்யன்பக்கலில் கேட்டும், ஆசார்யர்களை வணங்கி, நல்வழியிலே நடந்தும்,திருவாராதளம் செய்தும் கலத்தை தோஷமில்லாததாக போக்கினேன்,
2. நிரந்தரம் நினைப்பதாக நீ நினைக்கவேண்டுமே,நான் இடைவிடாமல் உன்னை த்யானம் பண்ணவேணுமென நீ ஸங்கல்ப்பித்தருளவேணும்,
3.குலங்களாயவீரிரன்டிலொன்றிலும் பிறந்திலேன்,, நல்லகுலங்களாய
ப்ராஹ்மணாதி நான்கு குலங்களில் ஒன்றிலும் பிறக்கவில்லை.
4,நாயினேன் செய்தகுற்றம் நற்றமாகவே கொள் ஞாலநாதனே .மிகவும் தாழ்ந்வனான நான் செய்த அபசாரத்தை க்ஷமிக்கவேணும்.
5,எட்டெழுத்துமோதுவார்கள் வல்லார் வானமாளவே, அஷ்டாக்ஷரத்தை ஜபம் செய்பவர்கள் பரமபதத்தை ஆளுவதற்கு சக்தி உடையவர்கள்..
6,அன்று நான் பிறந்திலேன் பிறந்தபின் இறந்திலேன்.,. அன்று ஸ்வரூபஞானம் இல்லாததசையில் சரீராதிகளை விட வேறுபட்டவன் என்கிற ஞானம் பிறவாத போது நான் பிறக்கவில்லை, பிறந்தபின் அதை மறக்கவில்லை.
இப்படியாக மேலும் பல வாகாயங்களை காணலாம். திருச்சந்தவிருத்தம் மிகவும் கடினமானவை , அதுபோல் ஸ்வாமியின் ப்ரபந்தமும் கடினமானவையாம், ப்ரதிவாதிபயங்கரம்ஸ்ரீ அண்ணன் ஸ்வாமி ஸாதிக்கிறார்
யஃ ஸம்ஸ்க்ருத கவிதாயாம் ப்ரௌடிம்நாந்வேதி கூரநாதஸுதம்.
த்ராவிட கவிதா மார்கே பரகாலம் வாத பக்திசாரம் வா.
ஸ்வாமி தேசிகன் ஸம்ஸ்க்ருதகவிதையை கடிநமாக இயற்றுவதில் ஸ்ரீபட்டரையும், த்ராவிடகவிதையில் பக்திசாரரையும் ஒத்தவர் என கொண்டாடுகிறார்.
ஸ்வாமி தேசிகன் தன்னை சந்தமிகுதமிழமறையோன் என குறிப்பிடுகிறார். ஸ்வாமி உத்ஸவத்தில் திவ்யப்ரபந்த ஸேவைகள் அமைந்தவிதம் மிகவும் ரஸநீயம், அதாவது நான்காம் திருநாள் ஸ்வாமிக்கு பரமபதநாதன் திருக்கோலம், காலை திருச்சந்தவிருத்தம், மாலை நான்முகன் திருவந்தாதி மற்றும் திருவாய்மொழி நான்காம் பத்து, கடைசி தசகம் ஒன்றும் தேவும் என்பதில் எம்பெருமானே பரதேவதை என ஸாதிக்கப்படுவது, இந்த பாசுரத்தில் எம்பெருமான் ஜகத்காரணமென்று ஸாதிக்க திருக்குருகைப்பிரான் பிள்ளான் திருவாராயிரப்படியில ச்ரமப்பட்டு முழு உபநிஷத்துக்களையும் ப்ரமாணங்களாக ஸாதிக்கிறார், அவைகளை அவச்யம் ஸேவிக்கவேணும், ஸ்வாமியோ எனில் முதல்பாட்டின் ஸாரமாக மூன்று பதத்தை ஸாதிக்கிறார், கல்பாந்தேபி ஸ்திதத்வாத் ப்ரளயகாலத்தில் தானொருவனே இருக்கையால் என, இதை ஸ்மரித்தே ப்ரதிவாதிபயங்கரம்ஸ்ரீ அண்ணன் ஸ்வாமி ஸாதிக்கிறார் ,கலிவைரிசடாரி வசோ ரஸிகம், நம்மாழ்வாரின் ஸ்ரீஸூக்திகளை ரஸிப்பவர் என,இன்று ஸ்வாமியை ஸேவித்தால் தனியாக ஒரு காம்பீர்யம் தெரியும்.
திருமழிசையாழ்வார் அயோநிஜர், ஆயினும் தாழ்ந்த ஜாதியினரால் வளர்கப்பட்டவர், அவர் விஷயமாக ஒரு கதையும் சொல்லுவார்கள், திருமழிசையாழ்வார் பெரும்புலியூரில் வீதிவழியாக சென்றுக்கொண்டிருக்கும்பொழுது வேதாத்யயனம் செய்யும் ப்ராஹ்மணர்கள் அக்ரஹாரத்தில் இவரைக்கண்டவுடன் இவர் மஹிமை அறியாத இவர் காதில் வேதபாகம் விழக்கூடாது என வேதபாகத்தை நிறுத்தினார்கள், பிறகு நிறுத்திய பாகம் தெரியாத ஸமயத்தில் இவர் அங்கிருந்த கருப்பு நெல்லை எடுத்து நகத்தால் கீண்டு காண்பித்தார் என, அந்தபாகம் க்ருஷ்ணானாம் வ்ரீஹீணாம் நக நிர்பிந்நம், என, ஆக ஜாத்யனுகுணமாக வேதாதிகளை வாயினால் சொல்லவில்லை என, இவ்விருத்தாந்தத்தை ஸ்வாமி தேசிகன் " விதுராதிகளிலுமுத்க்ருஷ்டப்ரபாவரான ஆழ்வார்களுடைய வ்ருத்தாந்த விசேஷங்களை நம்மனுஷ்டானததுக்கு த்ருஷ்டாந்தமாக்கலாகாது, அவர்கள் வ்ருத்தாந்தங்களையுமாராய்ந்தால் ஸ்வஜாதிநியமத்தை கடந்தமையில்லை "என ஸாதிக்கிறார், இதன் முன்பாக "ஸ்ரீவிதுரரும் ஸ்வஜாத்யனுரூபமாக விவாஹாதிகள் பண்ணினார்," என ஸாதித்து அங்கு ஒரு வ்ருத்தாந்தத்தை காண்பிக்கிறார்.
"புக்தவத்ஸு த்விஜாக்ர்யேஷு நிஷண்ணஃ பரமாஸநே.
விதுராந்நாநி புபுஜே சுசீநி குணவந்தி ச, ப்ராஹமணச்ரேஷ்டர்கள்" சாப்பிட்ட பிறகு உயர்ந்த ஆஸநத்தில் உட்கார்ந்து கொண்டு பரிசுத்தமாயும், குணங்கலோடுகூடியதுமான விதுரருடைய அன்னங்களை ஸ்ரீக்ருஷ்ணபரமாத்மா புஜித்தார் என, இதை கேட்டு துரியோதனன்
"பீஷ்ம த்ரோணாவதிக்ரம்ய மாம்சைவ மதுஸூதன.
கிமர்தம் புண்டரீகாக்ஷ புக்தம் வ்ருஷள போஜனம்""
பிதாமஹரான பீஷமர், த்ரோணர் மற்றும் என்னையும் தாண்டி சூத்ரனுடைய போஜநம் எதற்காக ஸாப்பிடப்பட்டது என்று கேட்க
"த்விஷதன்னம் ந போக்தவ்யம் த்விஷந்தம் நைவ போஜயேத்
பாண்டவான் த்விஷஸே ராஜன் மம ப்ராணா ஹி பாண்டவாஃ"
சத்ருவின் அன்னம் சாப்பிடத்தக்கதல்ல, சத்ருவை தன்வீட்டில் சாப்பிட வைக்கவும் கூடாது,ஹே ராஜன், நீ பாண்டவர்களை த்வேஷிக்கிறாய், பாண்டவர்கள் எனக்கு ப்ராணனல்லவா என பதில் கூறுகிறார். இங்கு விதுரர் பாகவதரானபடியால் ப்ராஹ்மணஜாதி என பதில் கூறவில்லை, பகவத்பக்தரான சூத்ரர்கள் ப்ராஹ்மணரைப்போல ச்லாகனீயர் மாத்ரமே ,அல்லாது ஜாதி பேதியாது என,
(இதே ப்ரகாரம் சிலர் ஸ்வாமிதேசிகனை த்வேஷிக்கிறார்கள் அவர்கள் விஷயமாக எம்பெருமானின் வாக்யம் இவ்வாறாக அமையும் என
த்விஷதன்னம் ந போக்தவ்யம் த்விஷந்தம் நைவ போஜயேத்.
தேசிகம் த்விஷஸே க்ரூர மம ப்ராணோ ஹி தேசிகஃ ,
ஹே க்ரூரமானவனே,ஸ்வாமி தேசிகனை நீ த்வேஷிக்கிறாய், எனக்கு ப்ராணனல்லவா தேசிகன் என.ஆக ஸ்ரீதேசிகனை த்வேஷிப்பவர்களை ஸத்கரிப்பதும்,அவர்களிடமிருந்து ஸத்காரத்தை பெறுவதும் கூடாதென பகவந்நியமனமாம் ஆக ஸ்வாமியை த்வேஷிப்பவர்கள் பகவானுக்கு பகைவர்களாவர்.)
திருமழிசையாழ்வார் மற்றைச்சமயத்தை புகுந்து அதில் தோஷத்தை கண்டு மாயோனல்லால் தெய்வம் மற்றில்லை என அறிந்து பகவத்பக்தரானார், இதுபோல் பலர் ஏகதேசிகளின் ஸம்ப்ரதாயத்தில் புகுந்து அதில் சாஸ்த்ரவிரோதத்தை அறிந்து ஸ்ரீதேசிகஸம்ப்ரதாயத்தை ஆச்ரயித்தார்கள் என அறிகிறோம். அவர்களில் ஒருவர் பாரத்வாஜ ஸ்ரீநிவாஸாசார்யரென்பவர் ஆவார், ஸ்வாமிதேசிகன் ஸாதித்த ந்யாயபரிசுத்திக்கு ந்யாயஸாரமென ஒரு வ்யாக்யானம் எழுதியுள்ளார். அவர் எழுதிய ஒரு ச்லோகம்
இயதஃ ஸமயானஹம் மஹாந்தம் மதிபேதம் விவசஃ ப்ரபத்யமானஃ
ஸ்வமவஞ்சயமஞ்ஜஸாத்ய தைவாத் நிகமாந்தார்யநிபந்ததஃ ப்ரபுத்தஃ
புத்திமாற்றத்தை அடைந்து இத்தனை நீண்டகாலத்தையும் வீணடித்து தன்னை ஏமாற்றிவந்தேன், தற்சமயமே தெய்வாதீனமாக ஸ்வாமிதேசிகனின் க்ரந்தத்தால் விவேகமுள்ளவனாக ஆனேன், எனஸாதித்தார்
ஆயினும் இன்றளவும் பலர் ஸ்வஸித்தாந்த த்வாந்த ஸ்திரகுதுகதுர்வாதி பரிஷத்திவாபீதர்களாய்-தங்களுடைய ஸி்த்தாந்தமாகிற இருட்டிலேயே ஸந்தோஷத்துடன் இருக்கிற துர்வாதிகளான கோட்டான்கள் தூப்புல்குளவிளக்கை காணமுடியாமல் தவித்து வருகிறார்கள்,

மாதவாகோவிந்தாஹரிகேசவாநாராயணா
நாதகீதவேதமந்த்ர ராமராமராமனே!

சூகரத்தின் வடிவெடுத்த சுந்தரா சௌந்தரா
ஏகலோகநாயகா நீயெங்குமாய் நிறைந்தவா
மேகமா யளாவிநின்ற வேதஞானதேசிகா
நாகமீதில் மேவுகின்ற ராமராமராமனே!

காரணா தாமோதரா கரியநீலவண்ணனே
பூரணா பயோதரா புராதனா நிராதனா
வாரணாதிமூலமென்ற போதுவந்த வாமனா
நாரணா யசோதைபுத்ர ராமராமராமனே!

வீரசிம்ஹ உக்ரமுற்ற விஜயன்மீதுதசரதன்
பாரின்மீது மைந்தனாகவந்த பஞ்சவர்சகாயனே
பூரணா க்ருபாகரா புதியதூணில்வந்துமுன்
நாரஸிம்ஹ ரூபமான ராமராமராமனே!

மாமனான கம்சனை வளைந்துகொன்று வென்றவா
பூமியுண்டுமிழ்ந்தவா புகழ்ந்தபொன்னரங்கனே
வாமனஸ்வரூபனான வாசுதேவதேவனே
நாம மாயிரம் படைத்த ராமராமராமனே!

கோடி சூரிய ப்ரகாச கொண்டல்மேக வண்ணனே
வாடிநொந்திடைந்திடாமல் வந்தருள்புரிந்தருள்
தேடிஅந்தகன் வெகுண்டுசீறி மேவி உன்னிடம்
நாடி வந்தபோது காரும் ராமராமராமனே!

தந்திதான் முன்னோலமென்ற போதுவந்த வாமனா
வந்துகாத்ததன்றுபோல் வந்துகாப்பதெந்தநாள்
செந்திருமணாளனான ஸ்ரீநிவாஸநாதனே
நந்திசேகரன் தரித்த ராமராமராமனே!

எண்ணி யன்பரானபேர் இடத்திருந்து வாவியே
புண்ணியநாம தேசிகா புவனரக்ஷகாரனே
வண்ணனே லீலாவிநோதவாசனே நின்மலரடி
நண்ணினேன் வைகுந்தமேவும் ராமராமராமனே!

தானம்செய்தும் அறிகிலேன் தவங்கள்செய்தும் அறிகிலேன்
ஆனவன்பரான பேர்க்கு அன்னமிட்டும் அறிகிலேன்
தேனமர்துழாய்கொண்டு உன்னைச் சிந்தைசெய்தும் அறிகிலேன்
நானறிந்ததொன்றுமில்லை ராமராமராமனே!

களபவாசனை மிகுந்த கரியமேகவண்ணனே
துளபமாலை மார்பினில் புனைந்த சுருதிவேதநாயகா
உளம் மகிழ்ந்து கருணைகொண்டு உன்னடிமையென்று நான்
நளினபாதம் தந்து காரும் ராமராமராமனே!

இல்லறத்தின் மாயையாலே ஏங்கினேன்மயங்கியே
புல்லறிவுகொண்டுயானும் போற்றி உன்னைப் பணிந்திலேன்
அல்லல் உற்றகாயமென்று அறிந்துவந்து என்னுளே
நல்லறிவு தந்து ரக்ஷி ராமராமராமனே!

சங்குசக்கரம்தரித்த சாருஸ்ரீநிவாசகா
எங்குமாய்நிறைந்தவா இலங்குமுந்நூல்மார்பனே
மங்குல்மேனியாள் இலங்கு மகரகுண்டலாதிபா
ரங்கநாயகா முகுந்தராமராமராமனே!

ஆழிமீது நின்றுயர்ந்த அச்சுதா முன்னாதியில்
ஏழுமராமரத்தை எய்தி ராவணாதிகள்
மாளவேசரம் தொடுத்த மாயனேமகிழ்ந்து
எந்நாளும் நீ உகந்துகாரும் ராமராமராமனே!

கோலினின்று உயர்ந்தவா குசத்தில் ஏறிநின்றவா
காளைகன்றுமேய்த்தவா முன்கம்சனைவதைத்தவா
சாலநான்முகனை யுந்திதன்னில்படைத்தவா
நாலுவேதமும் புகழ்ந்த ராமராமராமனே!

மத்ஸ்யரூப ராகவா வராகரூபராகவா
கொச்சை யாயருக்குகந்து குன்றெடுத்துநின்றவா
பச்சை ஆலில் துயின்ற பச்சைநீலவண்னனே
ரக்ஷகாஸ்ரீராகவா ஸ்ரீராமராமராமனே!

தஞ்சமாவதேதுன் பாததாமரைச்சரண்
மிஞ்சவேறு தப்புமில்லைமேகநீலவண்னனே
அஞ்சலஞ்சல் என்று கையமர்த்தி ஆதரிப்பராரையா
ரஞ்சிதப்ரகாசனான ராமராமராமனே!

விருந்துசெய்ய வேண்டுமென்று விதுரன்மனையிலேகியே
இருந்துமாயையாக வில்லிரண்டு துண்டமாக்கினாய்
பொருந்துமாயமோ மயக்க புண்டரீகமாயனே
நறுந்துளவ மணிந்தரங்க ராமராமராமனே!

மாயவாமுன்பாரதப் போர்வந்துதோன்றும் நாளையில்

நகரவாசமாயிருந்த ராமராமராமனே!

குற்றமென்ப தெதுசெய்தாலும் கொலைகள்செய்திருப்பினும்
பெற்றதாய்விரோதமுண்டோ பிள்ளையென்றுகொஞ்சுவாள்
அற்றதன்மையாவனோ யான்குறைசெய்தாலுமென்
நற்றமிழ் உகந்து காரும்ராமராமராமனே!

சாடிசெய்துரியோதனன் சபையில்திரௌபதிதனை
ஆடையுரித்தபோது ஆதிமூலமென்றிட

SRIMATE RAMANUJAYA NAMAH!

The nearly 2 dozen postings on the question of why of creation were 
food for thought and thought- provoking too. 

Let me in this message attempt to give some interpretations for the 
few questions further raised in the other messages and bring to the 
notice of the learned devotees some information on the question of 
why of creation. At the same time I honestly request the devotees to 
kidly pardon me for any mistake / lapse in this message.

Now the questions:-

QUESTION 1.
IS IT RIGHT FOR THE SEEKER OF VEDANTIC TRUTH TAKE CUES FROM THE 
LIMITED REALM OF PHYSICS/ SCIENCE?

In the interpretation of texts and in the defence of their 
philosophy, reason is to be fully utilised. Vedanta is not a cult 
based on mere faith, but a philosophgical inquiry employing methods 
of logical investiagtion. Even the Visishtadvada school of thought 
recognises the validity of observation, perception and inference. Sri 
Ramanuja had underscored the need to supplement and augment the 
primary scripture of Vedanta with the secondary scriptures like 
ITHIHASA, SMIRITI TEXTS as also DIVYA PRABANDAHAM.

But today's massive strides in astronomy and cosmology are too 
tempting to draw parallels and seem suitable enough to look at 
Vedanta through the prism of physics too. (Infact aren't the 
physicists too attempting to unravel the difficult question of our 
beginnings?)
 In my humble opinion it is not wrong to make such attempts. For is 
it not also a part/ branch of knowledge enshrined in the knowledge of 
the Absolute? But that it is also incompltete in answering the basic 
queries as any other branch of knowledge is indiputable!

At another level, loking at the mundane / physical world, one gets 
initiated into the meta physical world. As one gets divulged with awe 
into the observable things outside, the appreciation of the subtle 
springs up. Of  particular interest is the subtle exposition of the 
subtler essence of visishtathvaitha as one can  experience in the 
pasuram 845 (NDP) of THIRUCHANDA VIRUTHAM

" OONIN MEYA AAVI NEE, URAKKAMODU UNARCHI NEE.
AANIN MEYA AINDUM NEE, AVATRUL NINDRA THOOIMAI NEE.
VAANINODU MANNUM NEE, VALAM KADAL PAYANUM NEE,
YAANUM NEE ADANDRI EN PIRANUM NEE ERAMANE!
(Yaanum nee -advaitic;
en piranum nee - visesha advaitic)

The inquiry into the sthoola, trains the mind to look into the 
shookahma aspects of the sthoola. That is probably the reason the 
practioner is advised to go in stages from the ordiunary (mundane)to 
the ethereal.


QUESTION 2.
DOES CREATION ENTAIL CREATION OF JIVAS, THE NON LIVING OR THE 
CREATION OF THE UNIVRERSE FROM BIG BANG ONWARDS?

Ramanuja holds that souls are not created. They are birthless and 
eternal. Souls have existed in BRAHMAN from all eternity as a mode 
(prakara) of BRAHMAN. so have the elements. At the time of creation , 
the elements undergo a change in their essential nature, and 
therefore are said to be originated, but the jiva doesn't undergo any 
change. There is only an expansion of their intelligence, making them 
fit to enjoy the fruit of their karma, and so they are said to be 
uncreated. Hence texts which speak of their creation mean only their 
expansion of theuir  intelligence , like sparks emnating rom fires 
(BRAHMA SUTRAS)
The term creation (srushti) also is found missing in texts like 
Taittriya upanishad. It only uses the term 'sprang' ('BRAHMANA 
VIPASCHITHETI)
" fROM AKASHA , SPRANG VAAYU, FROM VAAYU AGNI, FROM AGNI JALAM, FROM 
JALAM PRITHVI, FROM PRITHVI OSHDAYAH(PLANTS) FROM PLANTS ANNAM, FROM 
ANNAM MANG, isn't it?)

In the first chapter of Taiittriya upanishad, upasana of 5 MAHA 
SAMHITHAS is recommended to the disciple. The MMAHASAMHITHAS namely, 
ADHI LOKAM, ADHI JYOTHISHAM, ADHI VIDHYAM, ADHI PRAJAM AND ADHYATHMAM 
trace the evolution of the subtle in the sthoola.

QUESTION 3
 CAN THE QUESTION OF CREATION AND THE NATURE OF CRAETION BE EXPLAINED 
BY OUR LIMITED PERCEPTION?

Certainly not. But that need not be a dettereent for the seeker to 
put in place the pieces that he/ she gets to understand to build a 
better undwerstanding of the question.
It is said
YATHO VACHO NIVARTHANTE/ APRAPYA MANASA SAHA/ (TAI II-9)
(FROM  WHERE SPEACH TOGETHER WITH THE MIND TURNS AWAY)
Here a question arises, talking in a literal sense - When will 
something be turned away? After striking something?  Is it sent back? 
(like echo)if so it can be assumed that the words and the mind have 
actually struck the BRAHMAN but for want of a wholesome experience 
(as aided by manas, vigyana and ananda) they can not understand and 
are turned back. 
Can it be like this?  Like the 6 blind persons who actually got to 
explore the big elephant, but understood only in parts due to their 
limited perception and came out with varying description of the 
elephant.Our words and perception are similar to this and hence it is 
said unless one has experienced It, one cannot explain It (But 
kandavar vindilar and vindavar kandilar is also true)
Therefore it is said, AANADAM BRAHMANO VIDVAN/ NA BIBHETHI  
KUTASCHANETHI/ (TAI II-9)
(the one who has attained or experienced the BRAHMANANDAM feels no 
fear)
Strtching this, it can be said our perception, though limited and the 
subsequent inference can lead us towards the right path of 
knowledge,TOWARDS brahman,  of course with the aid of scriptures and 
acharya anugraha.

QUESTION 4
DO SCRIPTURES ANSWER WHY CREATION HAS HAPPENED? 

The answer lies in the ii chapter of BRAHMA SUTRAS (sutras 32 and 33)
NA PRAYOJANAVANTHVATHU/
LOKAVANTHU LEELA KAIVALYAM/
(BRAHMAN's creation has no motive behind except a sportive impulse)

Nobody engages in any action without a motive or purpose. But did God 
have a motive to create? This purpose can be two fold.  It can be 
either to satify one's own desire or for the sake of others. Brahman 
being self sufficient, It has nothing to gain for Itself by the 
creation of this world.If it is for the sake of others- the jivas, to 
get released from bondage, It could have created a world full of 
happiness. But herein comes to play the law of karma according which 
the jivas dispose of their bondage.
34 th sutra of the Brahma sutra implies that God takes into account 
the past karma of various beings before creating them as gods, men or 
lower animals. (A man becomes good by good work, bad by abd work- 
Brihadaranyaka)The lord is only the operative cause in the creation 
of beings, the main cause is the past karma of the  jivas. Just as 
rain helps differenrt seeds to sprout, each according to nature,  ao 
the lord is the general efficient cause in bringing the latent 
tendencies of each individual into fruition.

That the reason is LEELA is also confirmed by
NDP

THE  following lines depict creation as a LEELAI

"SWA SNAKALPAANUVIDHAYI SWAROOPASTHITHI PRAVRITHI SWASESHATAIKA 
SWABHAVA PRAKRITHI PURUSHA KAALAATHMAKA VIVIDHA VICHITHRANTHA BHOGHYA 
BHOKTHRU VARGA BHOGOPAKARANA BHOGHATHANA ROOPA NIKILA JAGAT UDHAYA 
VIBHAVA LAYA LEELA/

QUESTION 5
DOES NOT TELLING OF CREATION AS A SPORT, PAINT A BAD PICTURE OF THE 
LORD, WHO THEN WILL BE SEEN AS ENJOYING THE SUFFERINGS OF THE  
JIVAS?  DOES IT NOT AMOUNT TO GIVING A BAD ATTRIBUTE TO HIM 
PARTICULARLY WHEN HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE ATTRIBUTE LESS? 

For this we must attempt to answer what is LEELA. Is vilaiyattu a 
game of playing with the lives of the JIVAS? If karma is the only 
cause of creation, the scope for LEELA does not arise. It can only be 
said that God was highly compassionate enough to show a way out for 
the Jivas to cross the 'Piravi Perum kadal'But why LEElA?
If it is vilayattu, both HE and the JIvas must be able to enjoy the 
play. Jivas can not be omitted from the LEELA game for they form a 
part of it because it is for them , that Creation holds a larger 
meaning.So when or how can they become part of the play and enjoy it 
too? (By asking this question . all that I am trying to do is to 
build a logical answer, taking help from scriptures. For, this LEELA 
part , in my limited knowledge of the scriptures has not been 
extensively discussed.
To draw some supportive information,
"In the beginning, dear boy, there was this being alone, one and 
only"( Chandogya vi -ii-1)
35th Brahman sutra (chapter ii) says no!The Jivas and their karma 
form an eternal stream  which is beginningless.Individual Jivas are 
not created  but existed even before creation in a subtle form as in- 
distinguishable from BRAHMAN " All this was unmanifest. It became 
manifest only as name and form" (Brahadaranuyaka)
"know that Prakriti and Purusha are both beginningless (Gita xiii, 19)
when scriptures talk of creation, they mean only the beginning of a 
new cycle. This is borne out by texts like, "The lord devised the Sun 
and the Moion as before" (Rig Veda) Hence shedding of karma become sa 
motive in subsequent cycles.
Assuming as scriptures say, that the cycles had no beginning,and were 
anaadhi, Why call it a LEELA?

Thinking of -"IT WILLED, 'MAY I BE MANY'" ( CHANDOGYA)
"He sees without eyes, He hears without ears, without hands and feet 
He hastens and grasps" (Swetasvatahra)
-shall we say that 
-the unmanifest which possessed all forms of manifestation -
- the attributeless one which had all the attributes - 
indulged in the LEELA  to bring out the arttributes into manifested 
forms. 
-To see for Itself and enjoy the many praises of Its own Vibhoothi -
of Its attributes as sung by the Jivas who inturn can become relieved 
from bondage singing in praise of Him.
Then don't  we say that the Lord is STHUTHI PRIYAN OR ALANKARA PRIYAN 
etc? 
Can we conclude that the primary cause of creation was to bring out 
manifestations to sing the praise of God.
 The Nithya suris are already there singing in praise of the Lord. 
And it is for the manifest Jivas to derive pleasure in extolling the 
graetnmess of the Lord thereby sheddig of the karma bondage.
Did  THIRUMAZHISAI ALWAR had this in mind when he said, 
"SOLLINAL PADAIKKA, 'NEE' PADAIKKA VANDU THONDRINAR" (THIRICHANDA 
VIRUTHAM, 762  NDP)
(To sing in praise  of you, YOU have created them )
or is the LEELA another version of BRAHMAN COMING TO RESIDE IN THE 
JIVA rather than vice versa. 
Innumerable examples from NDP can be cited to substantiate this.
a few -
"UNAKKU IDAMAAI IRUKKA ENNAI UNAKKU URITHAKKINAIYE" (471, PERIYALWAR)

 "MUTHANAAR MUKUNTHANAAR PUGUNDU NAMMUL MEVINAAR"(866, THIRUCHANDA 
VIRUTHAM)

Instead of the well publicised(?) goal of the Jiva reaching HIM, the 
prospect of HIM coming to glow in the jiva is probably the LEELA  God 
had been fascinated about. Probably this is right or not necessarily 
so. But then both are true for, BRAHMAN encompasses everything, both 
right and wrong,as perceived by scriptures!

ONCE AGAIN BEGGING FOR PARDON FOR MISTAKES IN INTERPRETATION (THOUGH 
UNINTENTIONAL)

சமீப காலமாக ஏனோ தெரியவில்லை முன்போல் நிறைய நேரம் கணிணி முன் அமரமுடியவில்லை. பல இடையூறுகள். வேறு சில பணிகளுக்கு முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்க வேண்டி வருகிறது. தவிர, ஏதோ ஒரு அயர்வு அதனால் அப்புறம் பார்ப்போம் என சோம்பேறித்தனம் என்று ஆகியிருக்கிறேன். அதனாலெல்லாம், ஆரம்பித்த இந்த இழையை எப்போது முழுமை செய்வோம் என்று திகைப்பாகி விட்டது. இதைத் தொடர்பவர்கள் விரல் விட்டு எண்ணக் கூடியவர்களே என்றாலும் அவர்களுக்காவது பயன்பட எனக்குத் தெரிந்த வழி நூலை வருடி வலையேற்றுவதுதான்.
நூலை மின்னாக்கம் செய்து இங்கு அளித்திருக்கிறேன். விருப்பப் படுபவர்கள் தரவிறக்கிக் கொள்ளலாம் சிறு படத்தின் மீது சொடக்கி அதன்பின் தரவிறக்கலாம்.

இன்று இங்கு படிக்கப் போகிற அத்தியாயம் 3 மற்றும் நாளை தொடரப்போகும் அத்தியாயம் 4 இவற்றிற்கான ஸ்வரக் குறிப்புகளை முதலில் பார்த்துக் கொண்டு அதன்பின் பாட்டைப் படிக்க வேண்டுகிறேன். (இது அன்பர் ஒருவரின் விருப்பம்)

அத்தியாயம் 3

[இந்த அத்தியாயத்தில் அங்காரதாரை அனுமனுக்கு இடையூறு செய்தலும், அவளை வதைத்து அனுமன் இலங்கை சேர்தலும், இலங்காதேவி வீடுபெறலும் கூறப் படுகின்றன.]

மங்காதவேக மொடுவானில் செல்லும் மறையோன் விடுத்த நிழலும்
தங்காது செல்லல் தான்கண் டயர்ந்து தருமத்தைக் கொல்லும் நினைவால்
அங்கார தாரை யெனுமோ ரரக்கி அவன்வேகம் குன்ற நின்றாள்
எங்கேனும் நன்மை யிடையூ றிலாமல் இனிதேமுடித்தல் உளதோ?

‘நீயா ருரையிந் நீள்வானையெலாம் வாயால் மறைத் திட்டாய்’ – என

பேழ்வாய் புகுந்தே மறுகண மவள்குடல் பீறி வெளியில் வந்தான்
ஆழ்வான் கீழ்வந் தரவு கொள்வதுபோல் அவள்குடல் கொண்டு சென்றான். .36.

பின்னிடை யூறுகள் பிறவா வண்ணம் உன்னி ராமநாமம்
சொன்ன வாறுவான் சென்றனன் கடலும் சேர்ந்துமுடிந் ததுவே
பொன்னி லாயபல கோபுரம் வானெழப் பொலியு மிலங்கை கண்டான்
அன்னை காணுமோர் ஆசை கொண்டவன் ஆங்குள மலைகுதித்தான்
— நகரமே – குலுங்கிட – அதை மிதித்தான்
— வியந்து நின்று கண்டான் – விண்ணவரும் பயந்துலாவும் நகரை.
— ஸ்ரீராமஜெயஸ்ரீராம ஜெயஸ்ரீராம ராம் ராம். .37.

தங்க மூடுமணி தந்த வேலையிடை தாங்கிடாது வீணே
செங்க லோடுமண் சேர்ந்தஇல் லெதுவும் அங்குக்காண கில்லான்
மங்கி டாதபுகழ் மன்னு சொர்க்கமதை மாற்ற வெண்ணித் தேவர்
லங்கை தேடிபணி பூண்டு வாழ்வதென சங்கையொடு கண்டான்
—- அனுமனும் —- பொங்கிவியப் புண்டான். .38.

பந்தி பந்தியாய்த் தேர்செலு மாறிடைப் பரந்துநீண்ட பலவீதி – தடை
விந்தையாகப் பரி யானைகூட்டமாய் விளங்கு கோட்டைகளின் ரீதி
அந்தரம் வேள்வியி னரும்புகை செலவாங் கரக்கர்வாழு மறநீதி
எந்தை வினவுகையி லெந்த விதம்நான் எடுத்துச்சொல்வ திவர்சேதி
——- என ஏங்கி யனுமன் கண்டான் – வான் வளர்ந் தோங்கி நின்ற மதிலை. .39.

எண்ணில் வீரர்பலர் எமனென வாயுதம் ஏந்தி வாயில் காப்பார்
கண்ணி லவ்வழியில் நலியும் போர் நமது நாயகன் பணிக்கிடை யூறாம் – என
மண்ணி லோர்புயல் எழுவதுபோ லவன் மதிலைத் தாவியயல் நின்றான்
புண்ணிய மோட்டிடு பூதமென வளர் புல்லியனைத் தான் கண்டான். .40.

தோளோர் எட்டுடையாள் — ஒளிவிடும்
வாளோர் கைக் கொண்டாள் – அனுமனை
’ஆள்யார்’ இங்குற்றாய்? – அறிவிலாய்!
’மாள்வாய்’ என வெகுண்டாள். .41.
‘முக்கண் ணுடையோனும் – இங்குப்புக
முன்பின் யோசிப்பான் – அற்பமோர்
மர்க்கடம் நீவலையோ? — சென்றுபுக
வெட்கமிலை போ போ.’ .42.
அரக்கியின் மொழி கேட்டான் – அனுமனும்
குறுக்குக் கேள்வி போட்டான் – ‘ஓர்
குரக்கின முன்னூர் கண்டா லதனெழில்
குறைந்திடுமோ?’ வென்றான். .43.

‘குறுகிய தாலுன் ஆயுள்நீ யின்று குறுக்குப் பேசுகின்றாய்’ – என
உருவிய வாளொடு வேலை யனுமன்மேல் உலைய வீசலானாள்
பருகிடு மாபோ லனுமனு மவைகளைப் பல்லா லொடித்திட்டுப்
பெருகு கோபமொடு கரத்தால் புடைத்திடப் பொங்கிமே லெழுந்தான். .44.

‘பெண்ணென உனைவிட்டேன் – இன்றேல்
உண்ணுவ னுன்னாவி’ — என்றே
திண்ணென வோர்புடையால் –அவளை
மண்ணுற வீய்த் திட்டான்.
உதிரம் கக்கும் வாயால் – அரக்கியும் – உண்மை விளம்பிடுவாள்.
—- ஸ்ரீராம ராம் ராம். .45.

‘ஐய’கே ளுந்தன் ஆற்றலா லின்று அடிமை நீங்கி நின்றேன்

ஸ்ரீ ராம காநாமிருதம் என்று இராமாயண சுந்தர காண்டத்தை இவ்வளவு அனுபவித்து இந்த ஸ்ரீ வி.எஸ்.ராமஸ்வாமி ஸ்வாமி எழுதியிருக்கிறாரே என வியந்து கொண்டே பழைய “ஸ்ரீரங்கநாத பாதுகா” இதழ்களைப் படித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். அங்கு தற்செயலாக இவரே எழுதிய ஒரு கட்டுரை படிக்கக் கிடைத்தது. தேனாய் இனிக்கும் அந்தக் கட்டுரை “எங்கும் ஸ்ரீராகவனே” இங்கு .

திருமங்கை ஆழ்வாருக்கு பெருமாள் காட்சி கொடுத்த திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் அடியேனது வாடிக்கையான பழைய புத்தகக் கடையில் கிடைத்த ஒரு நூல் “ஸ்ரீஇராம காநாமிருதம்”. வந்தவாசியில் போஸ்ட் மாஸ்டராகப் பணி ஆற்றிய ஸ்ரீஎஸ்.வி.இராமஸ்வாமி என்பவர் இராமாயணத்தை இசையுடன் கூடிய பாடல்களாக இயற்றி அந்தப் பாடல்களுக்கு அண்ணாமலைப் பல்கலைக்கழக ஸங்கீத பூஷணம் எஸ், இராமநாத அய்யரும் ( டைகர் இராமநாத அய்யரோ?) ஸ்ரீமதி விஜயலக்ஷ்மி இராமஸ்வாமியும் இசை அமைக்க, ஸ்ரீ வை.மு.கோபாலகிருஷ்ணமாச்சார்யாரின் மதிப்புரையுடன் அந்நூல் வெளியாகிஇருக்கிறது. இராகங்களுடன் கூடிய அந்தப் பாடல்கள் இசைப் பிரியர்களுக்கு விருந்தாயிருக்கும். இசை கற்கும் இளம் பிராயத்தினருக்கும் இசையுடன் இராமாயணத்தையும் கற்கும் வாய்ப்பாக அமையும் என்பதால் இங்கு அதை தினம் ஒரு பாடலாக இடுவேன். அந்நூலின் முதல் பகுதியாக, வழிபடு கடவுள் வணக்கமாக அமைந்ததே முதலில் வந்த திருமங்கை ஆழ்வாரின் திருவல்லிக்கேணிப் பாசுரம்.

அபிநவதேசிக உத்தமூர்

தி..வீரராகவாச்சாரியர் ஸ்வாமி

இந்த ஸ்வாமி^ தை மாதம் ஸ்வாதி நக்ஷத்திரத்தில் பையம்பாடியில் அவதரித்தார். காவிய நாடகங்களைத் தமது திருத்தகப்பனாராகிய ஸ்ரீ உ.வே.சக்ரவர்த்யாச்சாரியரிடம் வாசித்தபிறகு மதுராந்தகத்தில் ஸ்ரீமதுபயவே ஸ்வச்சந்தம் ஸ்ரீநிவாஸாசாரியரிடம் தர்க்க பாடங் கேட்டார். பிறகு திருவையாறு கலாசாலையில் சேர்ந்து ந்யாய மீமாம்ஸா சிரோமணியில் தேறி சிறிது காலம் அங்கு விமர்சகராய் எழுந்தருளியிருந்தார். பிறகு ஸ்ரீமத் உபயவே கபிஸ்தலம் தேசிகாசாரிய ஸ்வாமியின் அழைப்பின்பேரில் திருப்பதி ஸ்ரீ வெங்கடேச்வர ஸம்ஸ்க்ருத கலாசாலையில் நியாய மீமாம்ஸா ப்ராத்யாபகராய் எழுந்து அருளியிருந்தார். இதனிடையில் தமது தீர்க்க பந்துவான ஸ்ரீமத் பரமஹம்ஸேத்யாதி ஸ்ரீ கோழியாலம் ஸ்வாமி ஸந்நிதியில் உபயவேதாந்த கிரந்த காலக்ஷேபங்களைச் செய்தருளி அந்த ஸ்வாமியின் திருவடிவாரத்தில் உபாயானுஷ்டானம் செய்தருளினார். பிறகு திருப்பதி கலாசாலையின் முதல்வராக பலகாலமிருந்து பல வித்வத்ரத்னங்களை பாரத தேசம் முழுவதற்குமாக அளித்துதவி யருளினார். இன்று ந்யாய சாஸ்திரத்தில் பிரபலமாய் விளங்கும் பண்டிதர்கள் யாவரும் ஸாக்ஷாத் ஆகவோ பரம்பரையாகவோ இந்த ஸ்வாமி யினிடம் பாடம் கேட்டவர்களே என்பது குறிப்பிடத் தக்கது.

இந்த ஸ்வாமி வித்யார்த்தி தசையிலேயே ந்யாய சாஸ்திரத்தில் உத்க்ரந்தமான “ந்யாயகுஸுமாஞ்ஜலி”க்கு விரிவான ஒரு உரையை இட்டருளினார். இதற்கு “குஸுமாஞ்ஜலி விஸ்தரம்” என்பதாகப் பெயர். இந்த உரையின் மேன்மையைக் கடாக்ஷித்தருளிய ஸ்ரீமதுபயவே மஹாவித்வான் ஸ்ரீபெரும்பூதூர் ஆஸூரி ராமானுஜாசார்ய ஸ்வாமி “தேவாம்சமில்லாதவரால் இந்த உரை எழுதியிருக்க முடியாது” என்று ஸாதித்தாயிற்று. மேலும் இவர் அருளிச் செய்த கிரந்தங்கள் வருமாறு”—

(1) நியாய பாஷ்ய ப்ரதீபம்; அச்சாகவில்லை (2) “வைசேஷிக ரஸாயனம்” இருமுறை அச்சாகியுள்ளது .(3) “அவயவ க்ரோட பத்ரம்” (4) “நியாய பரிசுத்தி வியாக்யானம்” ஸ்ரீமந் நிகமாந்த மஹாதேசிகன் அருளிச் செய்த நியாய பரிசுத்திக்கு உரை (5) “கிருஷ்ணம் பட்டீய க்ரோடபத்ரம்” (6) “தர்கஸங்கரஹ வ்யாக்யானம்” முதலியன.

(7) “ஸ்ரீ வேங்கடேச கல்யாண சரிதம்” (காவியம்) (8) “ஸ்ரீவேங்கடேச ஸ்தோத்ரம்” (9) “பத்மாவதீ ஸ்தோத்ரம்” (10) “ஸ்ரீ ஜானகீ சதகம்” முதலிய ஸ்தோத்ரங்கள்.

(11) “பரமார்த்த ப்ரகாசிகை” (12) “பரமார்த்த பூஷணம்” (13) “நயத்யுமணி பூமிகை உரை ((14) ஸ்ரீ ஆழ்வார்களின் நாலாயிரம் பாசுரங்களுக்கும் “ப்ரபந்த ரக்ஷை” என்கிற உரை (15) உபநிஷத் பாஷ்யங்களை யாவற்றிற்கும் உரையாகிய “பரிஷ்காரம்” (16) “வேதாந்த புஷ்பாஞ்ஜலி” என்கிற உபநிஷதர்த்த ஸங்கிரஹமான (ஸ்ரக்தாவ்ருத்தத்தில்) விரிவான ஸ்தோத்ரம் (17) “உபநிஷத் ஸாரம்” (18) “வேதாந்த கரிகாவளி” (19) “வசன ஹ்ருத்ய விமர்சம்” (20) ”ஈசாவாஸ்யோபநிஷதாசாரிய பாஷ்ய தாத்பரியம்” (21) “நியாய ப்ரகாச வ்யாக்யானம்” (22) “ப்ரபன்ன பாரிஜாத வ்யாக்யானம்” (23) நிக்ஷப ரக்ஷைக்கு வ்யாக்யானம் (24) “யாதவாப்யுதய டிப்பணம்” (25) தமிழ் மொழி பெயர்ப்பு “வைகானஸ விஜயம்” (26) “ஸர்வார்தஸித்தி டிப்பணம்” (27) வேதாந்த தீபத்தின் மொழி பெயர்ப்பு (28) ஸ்ரீஸஹஸ்ர நாம நிர்வசனத்தின் விளக்க உரை (29) “சரணாகதி கத்ய விவரணம்” (30) நியாஸாதிகார ஸர்வஸ்வம்” (31) ஸ்ரீ ச்ருதப்ரகாசிகா டிப்பணம்” (32) ஸ்ரீபாஷ்ய வ்யாக்யானம் தர்பணம்” முதலியன.

இன்னும் இது தவிர ஸ்ரீபாவப்ரகாசிகை முதலிய ஸகல பூர்வாசாரிய கிரந்தங்களையும் முத்ரணம் செய்து பரிஷ்கரித்து உலகத்தாருக்கு அருளியுள்ளார். “ஸ்ரீஸித்தித்ரய வியாக்யானம்” அதிபால்யத்தில் அருளிச் செய்தது முதலியனவும் இங்கு நினைவுறத் தக்கது. இன்னும் பல கிரந்தங்கள் அருளிச் செய்திருக்கிறார். அவை அச்சுக்கு வரவில்லை. அநேகமாய் எல்லா பூர்வாசாரிய கிரந்தங்களுக்கும் “ஸங்க்ஷிப்தம் விஸ்த்ருதம்வா” என்கிற கணக்கில் டிப்பணம் முதலியன அருளிச் செய்துள்ளார். தற்போது * ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமி தேசிகனது ஸகல கிரந்தங்களுக்கும் உரை அருளிச் செய்து கொண்டு அதிவிலக்ஷணராய் சென்னை மாம்பலம் நாதமுனி வீதியில் நாதோபக்ஞமான நமது ஸித்தாந்தத்தை ப்ரவசநம் செய்து கொண்டு எழுந்தருளியிருக்கும் இந்த ஸ்வாமி வெகு நாட்கள் எழுந்தருளியிருந்து நமது தேசிக தர்சனத்துக்கு இன்னும் இதோ அதிகமான சாஸ்த்ரீய கைங்கர்யங்களைச் செய்து கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டி பேரருளாளன் பெருந்தேவித் தாயாரை ப்ரார்த்திக்கிறோம்.

ஆங்கில ஆண்டு 1898
* வாசகர்கள் ஞாபகம் கொள்ள வேண்டியது இந்த வ்யாஸம் எழுதப்பட்டு மலர் வெளியிட்ட 1968ல் ஸ்ரீ உத்தமூர் ஸ்வாமி ஸ்ரீதேசிக தர்சன கைங்கர்யங்களில் ஒப்பற்றவராய் வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருந்த காலம். ஸ்வாமி பரமபதித்தது 1983ல்.
இணையத்தில் உத்தமூர் ஸ்வாமி என்று தேடினால் ஸ்வாமியைப் பற்றி பல அரிய தகவல்கள் கிடைக்கின்றன. அவரிடம் நெருங்கிப் பழகும் பாக்யம் பெற்ற பல மஹான்கள் இன்று இருப்பதால் உத்தமூர் ஸ்வாமியைப் பற்றி மேலும் விரிவாக அறியலாம். மலரில் இட அளவு கருத்தில் கொண்டு ஸ்ரீமதுபயவே ஸ்ரீவத்ஸாங்காச்சார் ஸ்வாமி மிக அவசியமான தகவல்களை மட்டும் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்.
உத்தமூர் ஸ்வாமியைப் பற்றி “ மாலுகந்த ஆசிரியர்” என்னும் அற்புதமான கட்டுரை ஒன்றை எழுதியிருக்கும் அடியேனது அபிமான ஸ்ரீ D.R. ஸ்வாமி ஸ்வாமியின் திருநாமத்தை இப்படி வர்ணிக்கிறார்.

ஸ்ரீமதுபயவே……..

இந்த ஸ்வாமி ஏடூர் எம்மடி லக்ஷ்மீ குமார கோடி கந்யகாதானம் லக்ஷ்மீ குமார தாத தேசிகன் திருவம்சத்தில் திருப்புட்குழி எம்பெருமான் கைங்கர்ய பரம்பரையில் ஸ்ரீநிவாஸதாத தேசிகனுக்கு குமாரராக, வில்லியம்பாக்கம் என்கிற அக்ரஹாரத்தில் திருமலை நல்லான் சக்ரவர்த்தி ஸ்ரீ ஸ்வாமி (மாதமஹன்) திருமாளிகையில் ஆனந்த ஸம்வத்ஸரம் தை மாதம் விசாக நக்ஷத்திரத்தில் அவதரித்தார்.

இந்த ஸ்வாமிக்கு வில்லியம்பாக்கம் ஸ்வாமி என்று ப்ரஸித்த வ்யவஹாரம். ஏழாவது திருநக்ஷத்திரத்தில் பிதாவினிடத்தில் ப்ரம்ஹோபதேசம். பெருமாள் கோயிலில் ஸ்ரீரங்கராஜ வீதியில் க்ருஹ நிர்மாணம் பண்ணிக் கொண்டு பத்து திருநக்ஷத்திரத்திலேயே ஏள்ளி நித்யவாஸம் செய்தருளினார். ஸ்ரீமதுபயவே ஸ்ரீமத் கிருஷ்ணதாத தேசிகனிடம் பஞ்சஸம்ஸ்காரம் பண்ணிக்கொண்டு ஸாமான்ய சாஸ்திரமும் உபய வேதாந்த காலக்ஷேபமும் செய்தருளினார். ஸ்ரீரங்கராஜ வீதியில் உள்ள திருப்புட்குழி ஸ்வாமி ஆச்ரமத்தில் உள்ள ஸ்ரீதேசிகன் ஸந்நிதியில் அனேக சிஷ்ய வர்க்கங்களுக்கு உபய வேதாந்த ப்ரவசநம் செய்துகொண்டும் பஞ்சகால பராயணராய் ப்ரதி தினமும் காலையில் பேரருளாளன் பெருந்தேவித் தாயாருக்கு மங்களாசாஸன காலத்தில் பால் அமுது செய்வித்துக் கொண்டும், விரக்தாக்ரேஸரராய் ஆசார்யாபிமதமான பேரருளாளன் திருவடிகளையே தாரக போஷக போக்யங்களாக அத்யவஸித்து நித்யவாஸம் செய்தருளினார். இந்த ஸ்வாமி ஸாதித்த கிரந்தங்கள்:

உபாகர்ம தர்பணம், ஸங்கரம த்வாதசீ நிர்ணயம், ஸங்க்ராந்தீ நிர்ணயம், மித்யாதீத ப்ராயஸ்சித்த நிர்ணயம், புத்ர ஜனனாசௌச ப்ராபல்ய விதி, உபராகே கர்தவ்ய விதி முதலியன.

யதாகாலத்தில் தம் பிதாவினிடத்தில் ப்ரம்ஹோபதேசம் யஜுர்வேதாத்யயனம் ஆழ்வார்கள் அருளிச்செயல்கள் அனைத்தும் பெற்றார். தம் பெரிய தகப்பனாரான கோபால தாததேசிகனிடம் பஞ்சஸம்ஸ்காரமும் ஸ்ரீமத் ராமாயண உபதேசமும் ஸ்ரீராமஷடக்ஷர மந்த்ரோபதேசமும் பெற்றார். பிறகு வெங்கடாசாரியார் ஸ்வாமியிடம் ந்யாய சாஸ்திரமும், ஜடபுலூர் சிங்கராச்சாரியரிடம் வியாகரண சாஸ்திரமும், தம் பெரிய தகப்பனாரிடம் மீமாம்ஸா சாஸ்திரமும் அப்யஸித்தார். அரசாணிபாலை ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமி குமாரத்தி பெருந்தேவி அம்மங்காரை பாணிக்ரஹணம் பண்ணிக் கொண்டார். பிறகு உபய ஸ்ரீநிவாஸ மஹா தேசிகனிடத்தில் உபயவேதாந்த காலக்ஷேபமும் இருபது திருநக்ஷத்திரத்திற்குள் பூர்த்தி செய்து ஸ்ரீபேரருளாளன் விஷ்வக்ஸேன கைங்கர்யத்தையும் அங்கீகரித்தார். பிறகு ப்ரதிஸம்வத்ஸரம் ஸ்ரீபெரும்பூதூர் எம்பெருமானார் ஸந்நிதியிலும், ஆழ்வார் கோஷ்டியிலும், வேதபாராயணம் கோஷ்டியிலும் துரந்தரராக ஏள்ளியும், அங்கே ஸந்நிதி களில் கைசிகபுராணம் முதலிய கைங்கர்யங்களைச் செய்து கொண்டும் பிரதிதினமும் பேரருளாளன் பெருந்தேவித் தாயாரை மங்களாசாஸனம் செய்துகொண்டும் அனேக சிஷ்ய வர்க்கங்களுக்கு உபய வேதாந்த காலக்ஷேப ப்ரவசநம் செய்துகொண்டும் ஸ்ரீபேரருளாளனின் ஸந்நிதி வீதியில் பூர்விகாள் திருமாளிகையில் ஏள்ளியிருந்து மத்தியான்னம் ராத்திரி காலங்களில் தர்க்கம், வ்யாகரணம், மீமாம்ஸை முதலான ஸாமாந்ய சாஸ்திர ப்ரவசநமும் செய்துகொண்டும் ஸதா வித்யா ப்ரவசநம் போலவே தர்க்க வேதாந்த மீமாம்ஸா க்ரந்த நிர்மாணங்களும் செய்து கொண்டு எழுந்தருளியிருந்தார்..

பிறகு ஸ்ரீதூப்புல் வேதாந்த தேசிகனுக்கும் தீபப்ரகாச எம்பெருமானுக்கும் வார்ஷிக விசேஷ உத்ஸவங்களும் ஸந்நிதி ஜீரணோத்தாரணமும் செய்து வைத்தார். ஸ்ரீ தூப்புல் வேதாந்த தேசிகனுக்கு ஸ்ரீ பேரருளாளன் ஸந்நிதியில் மங்களாசாஸனமும் வெகு விமர்சையாக செய்வித்தருளினார்.

தாத தேசிக தாதாசார் ஸ்வாமி

ஸ்ரீஉப.வே. பட்டு ஸ்வாமிகளுக்குப் பிறகு ஸ்ரீஅக்நிஹோத்ரம் தாததேசிக தாதாசாரியார் ஸ்வாமி ஆசார்யபீடம் வஹித்தாயிற்று. ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமி பால்யத்திலேயே வம்ச பரம்பரைப்படி வேதாத்யானம், வேதலக்ஷணம் கற்று மீமாம்ஸை, ஸ்ரீபாஷ்யம், ஸ்ரீமத்ரஹஸ்யத்ரய ஸாரம், இன்னும் பல ஸம்ப்ரதாய க்ரந்தங்களை ஸ்ரீபட்டு ஸ்வாமிகளிடம் காலக்ஷேபங்களைச் செய்து, வேதபாஷ்யம், கல்ப ஸூத்ரங்கள் இவைகளில் அஸாதாரணமான பாண்டித்யத்தைப் பெற்று திருவிதாங்கூர், புதுக்கோட்டை, மைசூர் முதலிய முன்னாள் ராஜாக்கள் நடத்திவந்த பண்டித சபையில் முதல் சம்மானம் அளிக்கப்பட்டு மெச்சி கௌரவிக்கப்பட்டார். ஆசாரம், அனுஷ்டானம், வைராக்யம், வைலக்ஷண்யம் இந்த ஸ்வாமிக்கு ஒரு விசேஷணம்.

கர்மானுஷ்டானத்தில் யாக்ஞ்யவல்க்யாதி ரிஷிகளைப்போல் நெறி தவறியது இல்லை. ஸ்ரீமத் ராமானுஜ ஸித்தாந்தத்தையும் ஸ்ரீ நிகமாந்த மஹாதேசிகர் ஸம்பிரதாயத்தையும் அநேக ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவ ஸம்பிரதாயஸ்தர்களுக்கு காலக்ஷேபங்கள் உபதேசங்கள், உபந்யாஸங்கள் மூலம் பிரசாரம் செய்தும் தேசிக தர்சனத்தின் பரந்த நோக்கத்தையும் அதன் உட்கருத்துக்களையும் திராக்ஷாபாகமாக மனதில் தெளிவுபட ஸாதிப்பது ஒரு சிறப்பு. மேலும் ஸ்வாமிக்கு வேதங்களில் ஆங்காங்கு உத்கோஷிக்கும் வேத வாக்யங்களே ஸ்ரீபாஷ்யகார, ஸ்ரீநிகமாந்த மஹாதேசிகனால் திருவாய் மலர்ந்தருளி யாயிற்று என்று ஐகண்ட்யம் செய்து கருத்து வேற்றுமை கிடையாது என தெளிவுற ஸாதிப்பது வழக்கம்.

நமது தேசிகதர்சன தீபம் ஸ்ரீ வி.வி. முத்தண்ணாவுக்கு, இந்த ஸ்வாமியிடம் விசேஷ பக்தியும் அன்பும் அதிகம். ஸ்ரீ வி.வி. ஸ்வாமி அடிக்கடி ஸ்ரீதாததேசிக தாதாசாரியார் ஸ்வாமியை “வேதமூர்த்தி” என்று வெகு சிலாக்யமாக கொண்டாடுவது நம் ஸம்பிரதாயஸ்தர்கள் மனதில் இன்றும் இருக்கும். திருக்குடந்தையில் பலகாலமாக நடந்து வருகிற “விசிஷ்டாத்வைத ஸபை”யில் சுமார் 30 ஸம்வத்ஸரங்கள் ஸ்ரீதாததேசிக தாதாசாரியார் ஸதஸ்யராக இருந்து பல வாக்யார்த்தங்களில் கலந்துகொண்டும் உபந்யாஸங்கள் மூலமாகவும் விசிஷ்டாத்வைத வேதாந்தத்தைப் பரப்பி வந்தார். ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமி திருமாளிகையில் காலையில் ஸ்ரீபாஷ்யம், ஸ்ரீமத் ரஹஸ்யத்ரய ஸாரம் காலக்ஷேபங்கள் ஸாதிப்பதும், போதகாசாரியராகவும், மற்ற சமயங்களில் வேத பாஷ்யம், வேத லக்ஷணம், சிரௌதம், மீமாம்ஸா கல்ப ஸூத்ரங்களையும் ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமிகளிடம் நம் ஸம்பிரதாயஸ்தர்களும் இதர வேதாந்திகளும் கற்பதைப் பார்த்தால் ஸ்வாமி திருமாளிகை ஒரு “குருகுலம்” என்று சொல்வது மிகப் பொருத்தம். ஸ்ரீமத் ராமாநுஜ ஸித்தாந்தத்தையும் ஸ்ரீ நிகமாந்த மஹாதேசிகன் அருளிச் செய்த கிரந்தங்களையும் ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமிகளிடம் காலக்ஷேபங்கள் செய்த பல தனவந்தர்களும், பண்டிதர்களும், சிஷ்ய கோடிகளும் ஆங்காங்கு பல பாகங்களில் இருக்கின்றனர்.

வம்ச பாரம்பர்யப்படி, பட்டு ஸ்வாமிகளுக்குப் பிறகு ஆசார்ய ஸ்தானத்தை வகித்து சிஷ்யகோடிகளுக்கு ஸமாச்ரயணம் மந்திரோபதேசம், ப்ரபத்தி முதலியவைகளை செய்து வந்தார்.

ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமிகளால் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ள கிரந்தங்கள் “ஸூத்ரானுகுண்யஸித்தி விமர்சனம்”. இந்த நூல் லலிதமான முறையில் அத்வைத ஸித்தாந்தத்திற்கு “ப்ரும்ம சூத்ரம்” பொருந்தாது என்று நிரூபிக்கிறது. “த்ரவிடாத்ரேய தர்சனம்” என்ற க்ரந்தம் அத்வைதிகள் த்ரவிட பாஷ்யகாரரைப் பற்றியும் வ்ருத்திகாரர்களைப் பற்றியும் சொல்லும் வாதங்களைக் கண்டித்து பகவத் ராமாநுஜ ஸித்தாந்தத்தை ஸ்தாபிப்பது. “வேத நவனீதம்” என்ற நூல் விசிஷ்டாத்வைத வேதாந்தம்தான் வேதத்தின் அடிப்படையான தத்வம் என்று நிரூபிக்கிறது.

ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமிகள் சென்னை, மைசூர் சர்வகலாசாலைகளில் விசிஷ்டாத்வைத வேதாந்தத்திற்கு பரீக்ஷாதிகாரியாகவும், பல இடங்களில் நடத்தப்பட்ட விசிஷ்டாத்வைத ஸதஸுகளில் ஸதஸ்யராகவும் பணியாற்றி இருக்கிறார். ஸ்வாமியின் பாண்டித்யத்தைப் பாராட்டி “ச்ருதி ஸ்மிருதி மீமாம்ஸா கல்ப ஸூத்ர விசாரத” “வேத பாஷ்ய ப்ரவீண” என்ற விருதுகளால் மைசூர், திருவிதாங்கூர்களில் பாராட்டினார்கள்.

வேதங்கள், வேதபாஷ்யங்கள், விசிஷ்டாத்வைத வேதாந்தம், மீமாம்ஸா, கல்ப ஸூத்ரங்கள் இவைகளில் ஸ்வாமிக்கு உள்ள அபார பாண்டித்யத்தை மெச்சி நமது பாரத ராஷ்ட்ரபதியால் 1962ல் கௌரவிக்கப் பட்டார்.

ஸ்வாமிகள் 60 ஸம்வத்ஸரங்களுக்கு மேல் வேதத்திற்கும் ஸ்ரீபகவத் ராமானுஜ ஸித்தாந்தத்திற்கும் தேசிக தர்சனத்திற்கும் பாடுபட்டு ஸ்வாமியின் 84-வது திருநக்ஷத்திரத்தில் திருநாட்டை அலங்கரித்தாயிற்று.

ஸ்ரீமதித்யாதி …. கோடி கன்னிகாதானம் அக்நிஹோத்ரம்

“தாதா” என்ற பதம் திருமலை திருவேங்கடமுடையான் தனது பரம பக்த ச்ரேஷ்டரான ஸ்ரீ பெரிய திருமலை நம்பியைப் பார்த்து ஒரு ஸமயம், “தாதா” என்று கூப்பிட்டதிலிருந்து ஏற்பட்ட அருள் வாக்கு. இந்த தாதாசாரியர் எனப்படும் ஆசார்ய புருஷ வம்சம் ஸ்ரீ சுமார் 1000 வருஷ காலமாக ஸ்ரீ வைஷ்ணவ ஸித்தாந் தத்தை பரப்புவதற்கும் பாதுகாப்பதற்கும் அளவிலா பங்கு கொண்டது. ஸ்ரீவைஷ்ணவ ஸித்தாந்தத்தில் முக்ய ஆசார்யர்களான ஸ்ரீமந்நாதமுனிகள், ஸ்ரீமன் யாமுன முனிகள் இந்த வம்சத்தில் அவதரித்தவர்கள். வம்ச பரம்பரையில் கோடிகன்னிகாதானம் ஸ்ரீ தாத தேசிகன் திருவவதாரம்.

ஸ்ரீதாத தேசிகன் கர்னாடக தேசத்தரசர்களுக்கு ராஜகுரு. விஜயநகர ஸாம்ராஜ்ய அரசர்களின் உதவியால் குளம் வெட்டுதல், அக்ரஹார ப்ரதிஷ்டை, கோவில் திருப்பணி இன்னும் பல தர்ம காரியங்களுக்கு தனது சிஷ்யகோடி களாலும் அரசர்களாலும் “துலாபாரம்” செய்யும் த்ரவியத்தை அர்ப்பணம் செய்துவந்தார். ஸ்ரீ காஞ்சீ சமீபமுள்ள “அய்யங்கார் குளம்” எனப்படும் புஷ்மரிணி ஒரு முக்யச் சின்னம். ஸ்ரீ காஞ்சீ க்ஷேத்திரத்தில் வரதராஜர் கோவிலிலுள்ள துலாபார மண்டபத்தையும் ஸ்ரீதாத தேசிகரையும் தர்ம்பத்னியையும் இன்றும் ஸ்ரீ காஞ்சீ க்ஷேத்திரத்தில் ஸேவித்து வருகிறோம்.

இப்படி இந்த தாதாசரியர் வம்சத்தில் பிரஸித்த ஆசாரிய புருஷர்கள் ஸந்ததியில் ஸுப்ரஸித்தரான ஸ்ரீ உப.வே. பட்டு ஸ்வாமிகள் திருவவதாரம். பால்யத்திலேயே வேதாத்யயனம், சாஸ்திரங்கள் ஸம்பிரதாய கிரந்தங்களான ஸ்ரீபாஷ்யம், ரஹஸ்யத்ரய ஸாரம், திவ்யப்ரபந்தம், இவற்றை காலக்ஷேபம் செய்து ஸ்ரீ வேதாந்த தேசிகன் ஸித்தாந்தப்படி, எளிய வாழ்க்கை, வைராக்யம், ஆசாரம், அனுஷ்டானம் இவைகளோடுகூட ஸுமார் 30 ஸம்வத்ஸரம் வேதங்களில் உத்கோஷித்த பிரகாரம், அக்னிஹோத்ரத்தை பிரதி தினம் ஸாயம் பிராதா அனுஷ்டித்து ஸ்ரீமத் வேதமார்க்கத்தை பிரதிஷ்டாபனம் செய்தும், ஸ்ரீமத் பகவத் ராமாநுஜ ஸித்தாந்தத்தையும் ஸ்ரீநிகமாந்த மஹாதேசிகனின் திவ்ய ஸூக்திகளைப் பரப்புவதற்கும் பல இடங்களுக்கு எழுந்தருளி பிரசாரம் செய்தும், காலக்ஷேபங்கள் மூலம் உபதேசம் செய்தும், ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமியின் திருமாளிகையில் அனவரதம் ஸ்ரீஸ்வாமியை ஆச்ரயித்தவர்களுக்கும், மற்றவர்களுக்கும் காலக்ஷேபம் ஸாதிப்பது ஒரு அழகு. அபிகமன ஆராதனமானபிறகு ஸ்ரீபாஷ்ய காலக்ஷேப கோஷ்டி, மாத்யான்னிக ஸ்நானமான பிறகு திருவாராதனம், உபய வேதாந்த கிரந்தங்கள் காலக்ஷேப கோஷ்டிக்கு உபதேசம், ஸாயம் அக்னிஹோத்ரமான வுடன் திருக்குடந்தை ஸ்ரீகோமளவல்லிநாயிகா ஸமேத ஸ்ரீமதபர்யாப்தாமிருதனை ஸேவித்து காவ்ய நாடகங்கள், சாஸ்திரம், பாடம் சொல்லி ஒரு ஸ்தாபனமாக சுமார் அரை நூற்றாண்டுக்குமேல் ஆசார்ய ஸ்தானம் வஹித்து, 1952 ஜூன் மாதத்தில் திருநாட்டுக்கு எழுந்தருளியாயிற்று.

ஆசார்ய நிஷ்டையின் தத்வத்தை விளக்கி “ஆசார்ய நிஷ்டை தத்வநிர்ணயம்” என்கிற கிரந்தமும், (திருக்குடந்தை) “கோமளவல்லி சதகம்” என்கிற கிரந்தமும் ஸ்வாமி ஸாதித்தவை.

ஸுரபுரம் வித்வான்களின் வரலாறு

பழைய நைஜாம் ஸமஸ்தானத்தில் க்ருஷ்ணா நதிக்கும், பீமா நதிக்கும் இடையில் (குத்தி முதல் குல்பர்கா வரையிலும்) ஒரு சிற்றரசு ஏறத்தாழ A.D. 1700 வருஷம் முதல் பதினெட்டாம் நூற்றாண்டு வரையிலும் ஆண்டது. இந்த அரச வம்சத்துக்கு பாமி நாயகர்கள் தலைவர்கள். புக்கபட்டணம் என்கிற ஊரில் சடமர்ஷண கோத்ரத்தில் அவதரித்த வேங்கடாசாரியர் என்கிற மஹானை தமது தலைநகரமான ஸுரபுரத்தில் எழுந்தருளியிருக்கும்படி மேற்படி வேந்தன் வேண்ட, அதன்படிக்கு இந்த ஸ்வாமியும் அங்கு எழுந்தருளி அனேக சிஷ்யர்களுக்கு ஸகல சாஸ்த்ரங்களையும் ப்ரவசநம் செய்து கொண்டு வந்தார். இந்த ஸ்வாமியின் குமாரர் அண்ணயாசாரியர்I என்பவர். இவர் குமாரர் நரஸிம்ஹாசாரியர் இவர் குமாரர் ஸ்ரீநிவாஸ தாதாசாரியர் I. இவர் திருக்குமாரர் வேங்கடாசாரியர் II என்கிற மஹான். இந்த ஸ்வாமி பல ஸ்ரீகோசங்கள் அருளிச் செய்திருக்கிறார். இவற்றுள் சில :– 1, ஆனந்ததாரதம்ய கண்டனம் (2). ஜகன்மித்யாத்வ கண்டனம் (3) வேதாந்த தேசிக தண்டகம் (4) வேதாந்த தேசிகாஷ்டோத்தர சதநாம ஸ்தோத்ரம் (5) ஸித்தாந்த ரத்நாவளீ. (இந்த ஸ்ரீகோசத்தில் ஸ்ரீபாஞ்சராத்ர சாஸ்திரங்களின் ப்ரமாண்யமும், திருவாழி திருச்சங்குகளை பிராம்ஹணர்கள் யாவரும் தரிக்க வேண்டும் என்பது பற்றியும், மற்றும் ஸம்ப்ரதாயத்திற்குத் தேவையான ஸகல விசேஷார்த்தங்களையும் நிரூபித்திருக்கிறார்) (6) ஸித்தாந்த வைஜயந்தி முதலியன.

இம்மஹான், ஞானானுஷ்டானங்களை குலதனமாக உடைய ‘சதுர்வேத சதுக்ரது’ குமார தாதயார்ய வம்சத்தில் ஸ்ரீ வெங்கடரங்காசார்ய ஸ்வாமிக்கு குமாரராக அவதரித்தவர். இவருக்கு ‘நாவல்பாக்கம் ஸ்வாமி’ என்று ப்ரஸித்தி. ‘வித்வான் நரசிம்மாசார்ய ஸ்வாமி’ என்று வ்யவஹாரம். பரம்பரையாக வித்வான்கள் இவர் முன்னோர்கள்.

வித்யாப்யாஸம்:– தம் மாதுலர் புரிசை நடாதூர் ஸ்ரீரங்காசார் ஸ்வாமியினிடம் இவருக்கு வேதாப்யாஸம். மைசூர் ஸம்ஸ்க்ருத கலாசாலையின் அத்யக்ஷகர் கஸ்தூரி ரங்காசார்ய ஸ்வாமியிடம் தர்க்க சாஸ்த்ரப் பயிற்சி. திருவிசநல்லூர் ராமசுப்பா சாஸ்த்ரிகளிடம் மீமாம்ஸா க்ரஹணம். ஸ்ரீபரமஹம்ஸேத்யாதி நாவல்பாக்கம் வேதாந்த ராமாநுஜ மஹா தேசிகனிடம் வேதாந்த சாஸ்த்ரோபதேசம்.

உத்தமத்தில் தேர்ச்சி:- தர்க்க சாஸ்த்ரம் பயின்றது ஏழு வருஷம். ஒவ்வொரு பரீக்ஷையிலும் தவறாமல் உத்தமத்திலேயே தேர்ச்சி. இதை ஸஹிக்காத வித்வான் ஒருவர் வேண்டுமென்றே ஓர் பரீக்ஷையில் நம்பரைக் குறைத்துப்போட்டு மத்யமத்தில் தேறும்படி செய்தார். தர்க்காசார்யரான கஸ்தூரி ரங்காசார்யருக்கு இது தெரிந்தது. இதில் ஏதோ சூது நடந்திருக்க வேண்டுமென்று எண்ணினார். அரண்மனைக்கு எழுதினார். மறுபடியும் இம்மஹானுக்கு மட்டும் பரீக்ஷை வைக்கச் செய்தார். த்ரிமதஸ்தர்களைக் கொண்டு தனித்தனியாக நம்பர் (மார்க்) போடவும் வைத்தார். எல்லாவற்றிலும் உத்தமோத்தமத்திலேயே நம்பர் வந்திருந்தது. இதைக் கண்ட எல்லோரும் வியந்தனர். கடைசி பரீக்ஷைக்குப் பிறகு ‘தர்க்க வித்வா’னென்று பிருதமளிக்கப் பட்டது. ஜோடு சால்வை முதலானது ராஜ ஸம்மானமாக வழங்கப் பட்டது. இதுபோலவே பல சமஸ்தானங்களில் பரீக்ஷை கொடுத்துத் தேறினார்.

வாதத்தில் வெற்றி:– பல ஸதஸ்ஸுகளில் வாதம் புரிந்தார். மன்னார்குடி ஸதஸ்ஸில் உத்தர தேசத்து தர்க்க வித்வானொருவர் சபை முடியுந் தருணத்தில் வந்து, ‘என்னோடு வாதம் புரியுந் திறமையுள்ளவர் வாதிக்கலா’மென்று வம்புக்கிழுத்தார். அதற்கு சற்று முன்புதான் இச்சுவாமி ஸம்பாவனை பெற்று தம்மூருக்குத் திரும்பும் உத்தேசத்தில் ஹரித்ரா நதி சமீபத்தில் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார். ஸதஸ்ஸிலுள்ள பல ப்ராசீன ப்ரஸித்த பண்டிதர்களும் ஒரே அபிப்ராயமாக ‘நாவல்பாக்கத்துப் பிள்ளையாண்டான் தான் இவனை அடக்க முடியும்’ என்று நிச்சயித்து இவரை அழைத்துவரச் செய்தனர். வாதம் செய்யவும் தூண்டினர். அதற்கிணங்கி வாதம் புரிந்தவர் ஸ்வாமி. வாதி சொன்னதிற்கு மேல் மூன்று ஆக்ஷேபங்களை நிறுத்தினார். வெற்றியையுங் கண்டார். இதுபோலவே கொச்சி ராஜாவை கேள்வியினாலேயே மடக்கி வெற்றி வாகையும் சூடினார் இச் சுவாமி.

அனுஷ்டானம் :– ஸந்த்யோபாஸனத்தை காலத்தில் செய்வதில் மிகவும் பிடிவாத முள்ளவர். சில சமயங்களில் ;ஸந்த்யா காலத்தில் தூங்கிவிடப் போகிறோமே’ என்று அஞ்சி, கண்விழித்த சமயம் பின்மாலை 3 மணியாகயிருந்தாலும் அப்பொழுதே குளத்திற்கு நீராட்டத்துக்காக எழுந்தருளுவதுமுண்டு. அனுஷ்டானத்திற்காக அங்கு சந்த்யா காலத்தை ப்ரதீக்ஷித்துக் கொண்டிருக்க நேரும்.

வைராக்யம்:– உபகரிப்பாரிருந்தும் தேவைக்குமேல் ப்ரதிக்ரஹிப்பது இல்லை. சாஸ்த்ரீய ரீதியில் விருத்தியை நடத்தும் விரதங் கொண்டார் ஸ்வாமி. சக்தி உள்ளவளவும் உஞ்ச விருத்தியை விரதமாகக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அசக்தி வந்த பிறகும் தமக்கு உகந்த இடத்தில்தான் ப்ரதிக்ரஹித்து வந்தார். மற்ற இடத்தில் ஸ்வர்ணத்தையும் த்ருணீகரிப்பவர். கிருகஸ்தராயிருந்தும் துறவி போன்று ப்ரகாசித்தவர்.

ஆடம்பரமற்ற வாழ்க்கை:– படாடோபத்தை அடியோடு வெறுத்தவர். இதற்குச் சான்று – பெரிய விருத்தத்தில் அமைந்த தனியனை வெறுத்து சின்ன விருத்தத்தில் (அநுஷ்டுப்பில்) அமைந்த தனியனை அங்கீகரித்ததுவொன்றே அமையும். பரஸமர்ப்பண அனுஷ்டானத்திற்காக ஸந்நிதிக்கு எழுந்தருளுங் காலத்தில்கூட, தமக்கு ஓர் மஹத்வம் தோன்றும்படி சிஷ்யபரிஜனங்கள் சூழ்ந்து வருவதை கண்டிப்புடன் நிராகரிப்பவர்.

அர்ச்சையிலீடுபாடு:– பேரருளாளனிடம் அதிக ஈடுபாடு. ‘மற்றொரு தெய்வந் தொழானவனையல்லால்’ என்ற ரீதியில் இருந்ததென்றால் மிகையாகாது. அதன்பலனாக, தம் கிருஹத்தில் தமக்கு ஆராத்யனாக பேரருளாளனையே ஸ்ரீதேவி, பூதேவிகளுடன் ஏற எழுந்தருளப்பண்ணி அர்ச்சையில் ஆராதித்து வந்தார்.

பகவத் ஸந்நிதியில் தீவட்டி கைங்கர்யம்:– நவராத்திரி முதலான உத்ஸவங்களில் வெளித் திருமுற்றத்தில் திவ்ய தம்பதிகள் பற்றி உலாவும் சமயம், கண்ணீர் மல்க ஆனந்த பரிதராய் தீவட்டி பிடிக்குங் கைங்கர்யத்தையே தாமேற்றுக் கொண்டு போர உகந்து வந்தார் ஸ்வாமி. இதனால் பகவத் கைங்கர்யத்தில் ஏற்றத் தாழ்வு கிடையாது என்பதை அனுஷ்டித்துக் காட்டினபடி.

ஆசார்ய ஸேவையின் ப்ரதான்யம்:– நவராத்திரி உத்ஸவமும் தேசிகனுத்ஸவமும் சேர்ந்துவரும் சமயத்தில் பெருமாள் கைங்கர்யத்தைப் புறக்கணித்து இருவேளையிலும் தேசிகன் கைங்கர்யத்தி லீடுபட்டிருப்பார் ஸ்வாமி. தேசிகன் சாற்று மறையன்று பெருமாளும் தேசிகனும் மலையிலிருந்து கீழிறங்கும்போதும், சந்நிதிப்ரதக்ஷிணத்தில் எழுந்தருளும் போதும் பெருமாளை விட்டு தேசிகனுக்கே பரிஜனமாய் நின்று திருவாலவட்டம் சமர்ப்பிப்பது போன்ற கைங்கர்யங்களைச் செய்து உகந்து வந்தார்.

அதிதி பூஜையில் பரிவு:– அதிதி கிடைத்துவிட்டால் தீர்த்த பானமாவது பண்ணாமல் போக விடுவதில்லை. ‘ந கஞ்சன வஸதள ப்ரத்யாசக்ஷீதய’ ‘அக்னிரி வ ஜ்வலன் அதிதி ரப் யாகச்சதி’ என்பது போன்ற பிரமாணங்களைக் காட்டி ஆதித்யத்தை ஸ்வீகரிக்கச் செய்வார் ஸ்வாமி.

அத்யயனம் பண்ணினவர்களிடம் விசேஷாபிமானம்:– வேத ஸம்பன்னர்களைக் கண்டால் கட்டுக்கடங்கா மகிழ்ச்சி. ஏதேனும் ஸ்வல்பமாவது ஸ்வீகரிக்கச் செய்தாலல்லது ஸ்வரூபந்தரியார். ‘யம் யம் க்ரது மதீதே தேந தேநாஸ்யேஷ்டம் பவதி’ (யாகத்தை போதிக்கும் வேத பாகத்தை அத்யயனம் பண்ணின மாத்ரத்தாலேயே யாக பலன் உண்டாகிறது.) என்பவை போன்ற வேத வாக்யங்களை உதாஹரித்து கேழ்ப்போரை பரவசமடையச் செய்வது இயல்பாக அமைந்திருந்தது இவரிடம்.

மனம் நோக நினைக்கார்:– பாகவதர்களின் மனம் புண்பட நினையார். புத்திக்குப் போக்குவீடாக சம்ப்ரதாய விஷயமாய் தாம் எழுதின சிறு நூலை, தாமே கொண்டுபோய் குளத்தில் தீர்த்தத்தில் சேர்த்துவிட்ட நிகழ்ச்சியே இதற்குச் சான்று.

சிறந்த குணங்கள்:– தன் கார்யத்தைத் தானே செய்வது. மனதில் நல்லதென்று, சரியென்று தோன்றியதை தைரியமாயுரைப்பது போன்ற சிறந்த குணங்கள் நிரம்பியுள்ளவர் ஸ்வாமி.

ஸஞ்சாரம்:– கடலாடி மலையேறி கங்கா ஸ்நானம் பண்ணியவர்.

உபதேசம்:– “காலத்தில் முழுகித் துதி. காரியங்களைச் செய். பாகவதரை வெறுக்காதே. தினமும் பாஷ்யாதியை வாசித்துவா. அன்னத்தை எறியாதே. தளிகை சரியில்லை என்று அன்னத்தை நிந்திக்காதே. அந்நத்தை நிரஸ்கரிக்காதே. பஹுமானித்துவா. பக்வமான அன்னத்தையே பகவானுக்கு நிவேதனம் செய். தளிகை ஆகாத அன்னம் ருத்ரனுக்குச் சேரும். காந்தல் நிருருதி தேவதைக்கு. ஆகையால் பக்வமானதையே சமர்ப்பி. எப்போதும் த்வயத்தை அனுசந்தித்து உஜ்ஜீவியுங்கோள்” என்று உபதேசித்து வந்தார்.

உபகாரம்:– ஸமாச்ரயணம், பரஸமர்ப்பணம், சாஸ்த்ர, வேத,வேதாந்தப் ப்ரவசனங்கள் இவர் செய்த உபகாரங்கள்.

தனிச் சிறப்பு;– ப்ரமுகர்களும் வித்வான்களுமாக பல சிஷ்யர்கள் ஸ்வாமிக்கு. சில வித்வான்கள் புதுக்கோட்டை ஸமஸ்தானம் முதலியதில் பரீக்ஷை அதிகாரிகளாக இருந்து வந்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆசார்யகம் வஹிக்கிறார்கள். இப் பெருமைகளும் ஸ்வாமிக்கிருக்கும் தனிச் சிறப்பு.

ஸ்வாமி ஸ்ரீபாஷ்யத்தில் ஆங்காங்கு அற்புதமான விஷயங்களை விமர்சித்துப் பல வாதங்களை அருளிச் செய்திருக்கிறார்.

9. ப்ராசீந பாஷ்ய பாட நிர்வாஹ:
10. நிஷ்ட்டா ஸ்வரூபாதி நிரூபணம்
11. கதிபயப்ரமேய ஸ்வரூப நிரூபணம்
12. அதிகரண ஸாராவளீ தத்வ்யாக்யா பராமர்ச:
முதலியன.

ஸ்ரீபாஷ்யத்தில் ஒரு அதிகரணத்தை ஸேவித்தால் அனேக க்ருச்ர பலமுண்டு என்று அடிக்கடி ஸாதிப்பது வழக்கம். இங்ஙனே பல.

திருக்கோட்டியூர் ஸ்வாமி என்றும் கோஷ்டீபுரம் ஸ்வாமி என்றும் பிரஸித்தராக எழுந்தருளியிருந்த ஆசார்ய சிரேஷ்டரான ஸ்ரீ ஸௌம்ய நாராயணாசார்ய ஸ்வாமியை நம் நாட்டில் அறியாதவர்கள் இல்லை என்றே சொல்லலாம். அவருடைய ஞானம் அநுஷ்டானம் ப்ரவசநம் எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் மேலாக ஆத்ம குணங்கள் இவற்றைக் கண்டு எல்லோருக்கும் அவரிடம் பக்தியும், ப்ரீதியும் இருந்தது. அவரை ‘ஸௌம்ய மூர்த்தி’ என்றும் சொல்வார்கள்.

ஸ்ரீமதித்யாதி

ஸ்ரீ (ஐயா) கிருஷ்ண தாதாசாரிய ஸ்வாமி, (காஞ்சீ)

(1873 –1953)

காஞ்சிமா நகரில் தேவப்பெருமாள் ஸன்னிதி வீதியில் வசித்து வந்த மஹான் இவர். பால்யத்தில் திருப்புட்குழி ஸ்வாமி என்று ப்ரஸித்தரான ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ணதாதாசாரிய ஸ்வாமியின் அருள் நோக்குக்கு இலக்காகி பிறகு அவர் சிஷ்யராயும் விலக்ஷண ஆசார அனுஷ்டான சீலராயும் விளங்கிய வில்லியம்பாக்கம் கோபாலதாத தேசிக ஸ்வாமியினிடத்தில் ஸகல சாஸ்த்ரங்களையும் பயின்றார். தேவப்பெருமாளையும் தூப்புல் தேசிகனையும் தவிர தேவுமற் றறியேன் என்று அத்யவஸித்திருந்த மஹா புருஷர் ஐயா ஸ்வாமி. தூப்புல் தேசிகனுக்கு நினைத்து நினைத்து பல திருவாபரணங்களை செய்து வைத்தது இந்த ஸ்வாமியின் அருந்தொண்டே. பல சிஷ்யர்களுக்கு அத்யாத்ம சாஸ்த்ரங்களைக் காலக்ஷேபமாக ஸாதித்து வந்த இந்த ஸ்வாமி பகவத் விஷயத்திலும் ஸ்ரீமத் ரஹஸ்யத்ரய ஸாரத்திலும் அதிமாத்ரம் வியாமோஹிதர். வெகு உத்ஸாகத்தோடு அவைகளை காலக்ஷேபமாக ஸாதிக்கிற வழக்கம். ஸ்ரீமத் ரஹஸ்ய த்ரய ஸார பங்க்திகள் முழுவதும் ஆதியோடு அந்தம் முகஸ்த்தம். ஸ்ரீ கோசம் பாராமலே அப்பங்க்திகளை அழகாக ஸாதிப் பது வியப்பைத் தரும்படி இருக்கும். பிள்ளை லோகாசாரியருடைய ஸ்ரீவசன பூஷணம், முமுக்ஷுப்படி முதலிய கிரந்தங்களில் நல்ல பரிசயம். அவர் கிரந்தங்களிலுள்ள எந்த பங்க்தியை திரு உள்ளத்தில் கொண்டு ஸ்வாமி தேசிகன் பங்க்திகள் அவதரித்துள்ளன என்று காட்டுவது வழக்கம்.

Adiyen would like topoint just one thing,

Kaivalyam is Moksham as per thennacharya sampradayam andAishwaryam as per

Desika Sampradayam.

So anyone seeking Kaivalyam (and getting it) cannot beelevated as per

Thank you for pointing it out. Adiyen actually meant to saywhat you just stated. But while writing, I think I did not phrase my sentence properly. You are 100% correct. Asking forloukika phalans or kaivalyam is against thenature of the AtmA. However, if we ask such things from Bhagavan alone (as opposed to anya-devata), he willeventually elevate us to a state where we do not ask him for anything. So, thesaranagati performed to Bhagavan foraishwaryam/kaivalyam is like a path to an eventual realisation of jivasvarUpam.

How to "See" the Lord

Shastras tell us that the Lord is present in five forms.

The first and foremost is the Paramapurusha whose abode is Sri Vaikuntam, where He reigns supreme along with His Consort and the emancipated souls. Though this Cosmic form of His is in the constant sight of the nitya suris ("sadaa pasyanti sooraya:"), it is way beyond the ken of mere mortals like us, says the Veda Purusha-"na sandruse tishttathi roopam asya, na chakshushaa pasyati kascha nainam".

Similarly, the Vyuha roopams, those of Sri Vasudeva, reclining on the snaky bed in the Milky Ocean, Sri Pradyumna, Sri Aniruddha and Sri Sankarshana, are too exalted to form the subject matter of our faulty sight. Maharshis like Sri Narada and the inhabitants of the Sveta Dveepam might be endowed with the good fortune of seeing these moorties, but not poor mortals.

In the Vibhava avataras, constituting His descent to this earth assuming various forms like those of a fish, a boar, a man-lion, a giant turtle, the Princes of Ayodhya and Mathura and so on, He was indeed visible to mortal eyes, making Sri Koorattazhwan wonder at His accessibility-the Supreme Parabrahmam making itself visible to errant humanity ("nanu lochana gocharo bhoo:"). However, all those avataras were in the distant past, with absolutely no access to the present-day inhabitants of this planet.

In His diminutive form as the Antaryami, the Inner Dweller of all beings, our accumulated baggage of Karma makes us unable to see Him within us, though He is present at extremely close quarters and in as splendorous a form as the one at Paramapadam.
All that is left is the Arcchavataram, the beautiful forms in stone, wood and mud, that the Lord assumes at various temples and it is only these fantastic figures of the Lord that we are able to see and admire. Thus, the Lord who is normally totally beyond the impaired vision of errant humanity, makes Himself perceptible to mortals, out of His infinite Mercy, and out of a desire to entice, enthrall, enchant and finally ensnare recalcitrant humans, weaning them away from the debilitating path of sin.

Whatever be the glory of His other forms, which we have only heard of and have no means of confirming, we are able to see for ourselves, with our very own eyes, the immeasurable beauty of the Lord in His Arcchavatara-so much so that Sri Tirumangai Mannan holds the readily-available, blissful experience afforded by the Arcchavataram to be superior to that attainable at distant Paramapadam, admittance to which is restricted to the elite who perform Bhakti or Prapatti, and which is achievable only after herculean effort. Would anyone hanker after the flesh of a yet-to-be caught crow in the sky, which is anyway of dubious taste, when one has already captured a rabbit, which offers a delicious fare, enquires Sri Kalian, likening Arcchavatara anubhavam to tasty hare flesh and the bliss of Sri Vaikuntam to that of the crow-"Eraar muyal vittu kaakkai pin povade?". True to his fame of having Sri Kalian's sweet words etched in his heart ("Kalian urai kudi konda karrutthudayon"), Swami Desikan too spurns Celestial Bliss for that afforded by the ecstatical sight of Sri Devadi Rajan of Kanchi, prepared to swear on the point-"Satyam sape Vaarana saila naatha! Vaikunta vaasepi na me abhilaasha:"
Be it the Azhwars or Acharyas like Sri Koorattazhwan, Sri Bhattar or Swami Desikan and countless others-- they appear to consider the very sight of Emperuman in various temples to be blissful and each visit to the shrine an extremely rewarding experience, so much so that they feel capable of rejecting any offer of alternative bliss in the exalted Paramapadam, of which the Shruti, Smritis and itihaasas speak volumes. The Arcchavatara must therefore have afforded them such unalloyed pleasure, such deep delight and such immeasurable ecstasy, that they feel it to be superior to any other form of the Lord.
However, when we go to temples and stand before the Lord with hands dutifully folded and eyes ready to drink in His magnificence, while we do feel a certain amount of inner peace, we are unable to experience the sort of bliss described by Sri Kalian or Swami Desikan. We stand on an equal footing with these venerated worthies in that we and they used only these mortal eyes to see the Lord. While the Lord's decorated idol does generate in us a lot of aesthetic pleasure, why does it not afford us as much bliss as it did to them? After all, the Emperuman at divya desams is the same today as was worshipped by our Poorvacharyas, the temples are the same but for some periodical cosmetic uplifts and the eyes too are the same, characterized by the same degree of frailty as present in all mortals.
Given this, we find only two possible reasons for our not being able to derive as much delight from the sight of the Lord, as did our Acharyas. One might be that the Lord has made up His mind to be less pleasurable to us than to our worthy Acharyas, due to their infinite superiority in matters of wisdom, bhakti or adherence to Shastras. However, given Emperuman's predilection for favouring the underdog rather than the perfect person, we find this reason untenable. The other possible reason for our deriving less pleasure out of Bhagavat anubhavam is that something is wrong with our eyes, our vision, in the way we look at the Lord. This appears to be a much more plausible explanation and one which requires us to look deep into ourselves to diagnose the possible impairment our visual equipment could have suffered.
When we go the temple and stand before the Lord, what do we see?

At best, what people like me see is a beautiful, highly decorated idol that is pleasing to the sight, with impressive height and girth, with any number of adornments to enhance its looks. We are unable to see in the idol the all-powerful Lord, who is the epitome of all auspicious virtues and the antithesis of all that is bad, the sole repository of all imaginable good, the Universal Protector, one who is ready to take ten giant steps towards us and come running to embrace us, if only we would lift our foot to take one tiny step towards Him. We are unable to see beyond the stone and mortar and wood that the Lord, out of His infinite mercy, resides in, out of a desire to be the subject matter of our mortal eyes. We do not take in the beautiful form in full and are satisfied with a superficial and overall look at Him, as shallow in our devotion as we are in our other secular endeavours (perhaps more so, since our human bosses are more demanding than the Lord, who is the personification of tolerance).
How should we "see" the Lord, when we are before Him at the sannidhi?

Sri Nammazhwar shows us the way, in his pasurams on Tirukkurungudi. According to him, the only way to enjoy the matchless magnificence of the Lord is to take Him in inch by blissful inch, part by splendorous part, with undivided attention paid to one particular aspect of Emperuman's tirumeni or adornments or Ayudhas, at a time. This is because the Lord's brilliance is too much for us to absorb, all at once. Like a child with its favourite sugar candy, we too should stretch the experience to the maximum possible, savouring the boundless beauty of the Lord little by little. Kamban says that this too is impossible, for those who set sight on a particular aspect of Emperuman is unable to pry his eyes away from that part of the tirumeni, ("toL kandaar tole kandaar") with the result that the onlooker is unable to proceed to enjoy the next part of the divine body.
Coming back to Sri Satakopa Muni's experience, the Azhwar's eyes first lock on the snow-white conch adorning the Lord's left hand, capable of striking terror in the heart of His foes with a single booming emission. After having enjoyed the sight to his heart's fill, he moves on to the dazzling Discus inhabiting the Lord's right hand, which at once serves as the ultimate weapon and an adornment par excellence.

It is significant that Sri Poygaiyazhwar too mentions the Conch and Discus among the principal items of visual attraction on the Lord's perfect physique-"serukkilarum pon Aazhi kanden, puri shankham kai kanden, en Aazhi vannan paal indru". Moving on with reluctance, Azhwar's eyes are ensnared by the Lord's own, the eyes famed for their length, breadth, blackness, brilliance and size,resembling a beautiful lotus in full bloom. The divine eyes lock with Azhwar's own, full of love and affection. The eyes speak indeed volumes ("toodu sei kangal kondu ondru pesi"), obviating the necessity for words. The long eye-brows, forming a perfect bow on the Lord's forehead, clamour for attention too. Difficult though it is to pry his gaze away, Azhwar does so with difficulty and manages to travel down the Lord's face, till he is captivated by the coral mouth, with its rows of orderly pearl-white teeth, which demands its share of Azhwar's attention, impeding further progress.

The long, perfect and extremely shapely nose, from which emanate all the Vedas and the beautiful throat commend themselves to the Azhwar's attention next, followed by the Lord's jet black locks, which fall bewitchingly on His forehead and shoulders. Only part of the beautiful hair is visible, the rest of it being contained by the long and majestic kireetam, set with the most brilliant of gems, signifying the Lord's supremacy by its very magnificence. The broad and beautiful chest, adorned by the matchless Tirumagal, swims into view next and completely captivates the onlooker, embellished by the microscopic Kousthubham and the Vaijayanti maala.
The four strong shoulders culminating in slender but strong arms, holding the Discus Sudarsanam, the Conch Paanchajanyam, the mace Koumodaki, and the invincible bow Sarngam, with the sword Naandakam hanging by His side, refuse to release Azhwar's vision, with the shining black torso competing for his attentions. The white Yagyopaveetam lies across the black chest like a flash of lightning in an overcast sky, with the several strands of Titutthuzhaai competing with garlands of pearls and fragrant flowers, to embellish the Lord's chest. The entire picture is one of unmatched magnificence and blinding brilliance, one which makes Azhwar dizzy with bliss and incapable of taking his eyes away to see mundane sights. It is this pinnacle of joy that made Sri Paananathan too exclaim,
" en amudinai kanda kangal mattrondrinai kaanaave".
It is thus that we should "see" Emperuman, with each of His perfect aspects
leaving an indelible impression in our eyes and hearts. We should let ourselves be swept away by the wonderful waves of splendour emanating from the Lord, letting His beauty seep through each and every pore of our body, making us weak with delight, with our eyes filling with tears of joy and yet affording an uninterrupted view of the Lord's magnificence, our voices aquiver with uncontainable emotion, each individual hair on our head and body erect in enthrallment, with the palms automatically folding themselves in supplication and the head bowing in an involuntary gesture of submission and veneration. There should be thoughts in our mind only for the Lord, only about His glorious form and endearing exploits, with all other contemplations banished for the nonce, the mind verily an abode of pure love reserved solely for the Divine Inhabitant. In sum, the sight of the glorious Lord should reduce us to a state of utter incapability to turn our eyes, ears and other faculties away from Him even for a second, for fear of missing that second's delight. This state of bliss is described vividly by Sri Kulasekhara Perumal thus-
"Baddhena anjalinaa, natena sirasaa, gaatraischa romodgamai:
Kanttena svara gadgadena nayanena utkeerna baashpaambunaa
Nityam tvat charanaaravinda yugala dhyaanaamrita aasvaadinaam
Asmaakam Saraseeruhaaksha! satatam sampadyataam jeevitam"
If we are able to achieve this sort of vision and emotion while in the Lord's presence, the delectable experiences Sri Azhwan and Swami Desikan were able to imbibe from the Arcchavatara, prompting them to contemplate foregoing eternal bliss in Paramapadam, would definitely be ours too. We would be awash with the same sort of ecstasy and endless delight as Azhwars and Acharyas, if only we cultivate the habit of truly "seeing" Emperuman, instead of merely looking at Him as a showcase doll. This sort of experience which dedicated devotees undergo is extremely difficult to describe to third-parties. To sceptics who might feel all this to be exaggeration and embellishment, Sri Nammazhwar's advice is to look at the Lord through his (Azhwar's) eyes and heart, viz., eyes filled with devotion and a heart brimming with love and affection-"en nenjinaal nokki kaaneer". " Cast away your glances full of avarice, scepticism, half-belief and insincerity and look at the glorious Lord through eyes like mine, filled with genuine emotions, and you would definitely see Him truly and experience the indescribable bliss it affords" says Sri Nammazhwar to us, in a homily worth its weight in gold.
Finding his plodding friend seeing everything that he himself does, but not deriving the same incisive and didactic insights therefrom, Sherlock Holmes tells Watson, "Alas, Watson! You see, but you don't observe". Such is our plight too, it would appear. We do see the Lord, but we fail to let the spectacle make an indelible impression on us. The next time we stand before the Lord in any sannidhi, we would definitely find the difference if we try emulating even one-hundredth of the Azhwar's attitude.

நித்ய கர்மாநுஷ்டானங்கள்

நேற்றைய பதிவில் "நித்யகர்மாநுஷ்டான விதிகள்" என்ற நூலைப் பற்றிக் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தேன். அதிலிருந்து ஒரு பகுதியையும் நேற்றைய பதிவில் படித்திருக்கலாம். விதிகள் மீறப்பட வேண்டியவை என்பது நமது நாட்டில் மக்களின் மனோநிலை. சாலைப் போக்குவரத்து விதிகளிலிருந்து, ரெயிலவே முன்பதிவு, பள்ளி கல்லூரி சேர்க்கை என்று எங்கும் எதிலும் விதிகளை அலட்சியம் செய்தே வாழ்பவர்கள் நாம். இந்த கர்மாநுஷ்டான விதிகளை மட்டும் கடைப்பிடித்து விடுவோமா?

ஆனால், இந்நூலில் கண்டுள்ள விதிகளில் சந்த்யா வந்தனம் ஒன்றைத் தவிர மற்ற எதையும் நாம் பின்பற்ற முடியாத அளவுக்குக் கடுமையான விதிகள்! கர்மாநுஷ்டான விதி என்று தெரியாமலே நாம் அதில் ஒன்றைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கிறோம். அது என்ன என்று இங்கே நான் சொல்ல மாட்டேன். படித்துப் புரிந்து தெரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டியது. இன்றைய சூழலில் கடைப்பிடிப்பது என்பதும் முடியவே முடியாததுதான். ஆனால் அவைகளைக் கடைப்பிடிக்காவிட்டால் ஏற்படும் பாபங்களை அறிந்தால் ....... அது இன்னும் வேதனை! நூலைப் படித்த பிறகு, நான் தெரிந்து கொண்டது நம்மில் 99.9% இவற்றைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கவில்லை, முடியாது என்பதுதான். முன்னோர்கள் என்ன சொல்லி வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ளவே இந்நூலை வலையேற்றியிருக்கிறேன்.

ஸ்ரீமத் அழகியசிங்கர் திருப்புல்லாணியில் தனது அனுக்ரஹணபாஷணத்தில் மீண்டும் மீண்டும் சந்த்யாவந்தனம் செய்வதன் அவசியத்தைப் பற்றிக் கூறியது நினைவிருக்கும். இந்நூலைப் படித்த பிறகுதான் அவருடைய அபார காருண்ய குணம் புரிந்தது. நித்ய கர்மாநுஷ்டான விதிகளில் குறைந்த பக்ஷம் இன்றும் கடைப்பிடிக்கக் கூடியதான சந்த்யாவந்தனத்தின் மூலமாகவாவது நாம் சேர்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும் பாபச் சுமைகளைக் குறைத்துக் கொள்ளட்டும் என்ற கருணையினால்தான் அவர் அதை வலியுறுத்தியது என்று இப்போது உணர்கிறேன்.

Parasara Bhattar's Vaibhavam

As the chief preist of Sri Ranganatha and as the one born out of the grace of the Lord of Srirangam, ParAsara Bhattar blessed us with the guru parampara starting from Nanjeeyar and the vyaakhyaana jkarthaas of Thiruvaimozhi. As the son of KurathAzhvAn and AndAL , he was very dear to Acharya RaamAnujA . At this time, when Acharya RaamAnujA's birthday is two days away, it is appropriate to reflect upon the glory of the Sishya paramparA of RaamAnujA starting from EmbAr and continuing with Parasara Bhattar , Nanjeeyar , NampiLLai and the others in that line.

Paraasara Bhatar blessed us with twelve works, ten in sanskrit and two in Tamil besides his nirvAhAs on some passages of the Divya Prabhandham. The book by Dr. S.Padmanabhan, the nephew of the 43rd Jeeyar of DevanAr ViLAgam Azhagiya Singar on Sri Parasara Bhattar is a scholarly study for those of us , who want to follow up on his works. Those of you, who wish to acquire a copy can do so by writing to Sri Bahradvaj Jaganath and making a small contribution.

The summary on the works of Paraasara Bhattar are:

1. Ashta slOki , 8 terse verses on the three Rahasyams of Sri VaishNavAs. Using long meters, Bhattar hinted at the depth of the subject matter. The metres used by Bhattar are SikhariNi, Saardhula Vikridhitham and Sragdharaa.

It is interesting to compare Swami Deikan"s usage of these three long metres in his works. Among the total of 862 slokams of Swami Desikan used SikhariNi 28 times, Saardhula vikridhitham 35 times and Sragdharaa 82 times.

It is fascinating to recognize that the entire Nyaasa Vimsathi is set by Swami Desikan in the long SragdharA metre. The subject matter is about the glories of Prapatthi, a topic of great interest to this group. Swami Desikan placed 5 key slOkAs of the total 32 slOkaas of Nyasa Tilakam in the same Sragdharaa meter. The entire Garuda PanchAsath was set in this meter. As we know, the five aksarAs of Garuda Manthram took the form of the five VarNakams of the sthothram on the Veda Maya Purushan, Garudan. He used this metre to conclude his salutation to Acharya RamAnujA in his YathirAja Sapthathi (SlOkaas 69, 70& 71).

Swami Desikan chose SikhariNi metre for one of the decads of DayA Sathakam ( slOkAs 61-70 ). The subject ofcourse is the SrinivAs aanukampaa flowing like the river of sugar cane juice. Swami placed two of the Hayagreeva sthothram verses and four of the saraNAgathi verses (Nyaasa Tilakam on Sri Ranganatha) in this sacred meter. Swami used this powerful metre to celebrate the greatness of the Sri Sookthis of Acharya RaamAnujA ( SlokAs 49-60 ) in his YathirAja Sapthathi.

Swami Desikan used Saardhula Vikridhitham for the entire thirteen verses of DasAvathAra Sthothram. YathirAja sapthathi received 8 verses in this metre and fourteen more scattered in Dayaa sathakm (2) , VairAgya Panchakam (1) , Sri KaamasikAshtakam (1), Bhu sthuthi (1) and Nyasa Tilakam (9).

Bhattar used 45 kinds of metres in all of his sthothrAs containing 337 verses. The top three usage among the 45 metres are: Saardhula vikridhithA (55), VasanthatilakA (43) and SikhariNi (34). In comparison, Swami Desikan used 22 metres in his 862 slOkAs. His most frequent usages among metres are: Vasantha TilakA (266), short AaryA (116) and SragdharA (82). That covers over 50% of the total slOkAs of Swami Desikan.

Bhagavad GuNa DarpaNa: This is a celebration of the SaguNa Brahmam aspect of Sriman NaarAyaNaa and the important tenets of Sri VishitAdvaitham.

Work # 3: Bhattar's celebration of Sri Devi (Sri RanganAyaki)

The 61 stanzas of this sthuthi celebrate the glory of Mahaa Lakshni. Bhattar dwells at length about Mahaa Lakshmi's pleading for us (Purushakaara aspect) before Her Lord and suggests that the Lord's glory is dependent on Her.

Work # 4: Sri Ranganatha Sthothram

This is said to have been composed, when Bhattar had to leave Srirangam, when he angered the chOlA king and stayed at Thirukkhoshtiyur. There he used 6 slOkAs to reflect upon his great loss arising from his inability to have the daily darsanam of Sri Ranganatha.

Work #5: Sri Rangaraajasthavam

He folowed the tradition of his illustrious father, the author of Pancha sthavAs, and composed this long sthavam with 232 verses. The first half deals with the glories of Srirangam, the supermacy of the Lord there and His Anantha KalyANa GuNams and the beauty of river Cauveri. The second half deals with the subjects that were discussed this week and the last in our forum (Viz): the upanishadic basis for Sri VaishNavaNava SiddhAntham, the nature of Moksham et al.

Many of Bhattar's work are lost and are available in either fragments or thru the quotation of other AchaAryAs. These are KriyA DeepA (Like Nitya GranthA), Tattva RathnAkarA (masterly treatise on TattvA), AdhyAthma khaNda dvaya VivaraNA, Lakshmi KalyANa. The last work celebrating the marriage of MahA Lakshmi to Sriman NaarAyaNA deals with SaraNAgathi, the position of Sri Devi in Sri SampradhAyam, the supermacy of Divya Dampathis revered as Lakshmi NaraayaNA , Sridharan and Maadhavan.

The other two sanskrit works lost to us or available in shreds are the commentary to SulabhOpanishad, which was elaborated on by Swami Desikan in his Sarvaarthasiddhi and stray verses of Thirumanjana KattiyangaL recited even today at the great temple at Srirangam by the descendants of ParAsara Bhattar there. This starts off as a dialog between the Lord and his devotee and goes onto celerate the glories of the Lord during His Thriumanjanam.

Works 11 and 12 in Tamil

The commentary on Kaisikha PurANam earned him the honor of being carried on a palanquin by the brahmins of Srirangam around the streets of that city of the Lord (Brahma Ratham). The remaining work in Tamil is the celebrated commentary on the 21st paasuram of ThirunedunthAndakam , which converted the Advaitha achArya to Sri VaishNavism and earned him the title of Nam Jeeyar from ParAsara Bhattar. The rest of the Tamil works are the ones known from Thiruvaimozhi commentaries as Bhattar NirvAhams.

The greatness of Bhatar , the beneficiary of RaamAnujA's grace

Achaarya RaamAnujA had a significant influence on Parasara Bhattar as his teacher. On this day that is two days away from the celebration of the jayanthi of Achaarya RaamAnujaa, it is appropriate to dwell at length on the works of a great acharyA, Bhattar, who followed the footsteps of the illustrious guru of his father and his own acharya, Embaar.

Bhattar's philosophical contributions to Sri SampradhAyam have been brilliantly summarized by Dr. Padmanabhan and chapter 5 of his monograph deals with this subject. The role of Karma and the Lord's will in relation to it are covered here. Other topics covered that is pertinent to the recent discussions are: The nature and means of MokshA, the Sesha-Seshi bhavam, the concept of Sri, the concept of Avathaarams, Iconic forms of the Lord et al.

Some passages quoted by the author regarding Bhattar's views on SaraNAgathi that may be of interest to the current discussions are:

1. Vishnumaayaa can be crossed only when Prapatthi is performed.

2. " O Ranganatha! I resort to You , who are my refuge --I am devoid of any knowledge or action or devotion ; nor I am aware of any icchaa (desire), the proper eligibility (adhikaarA), the feasibility of such a hope etc. Full of sin and foolishnes and with a confused state of mind, I request you to be my saviour." (Verse 89 of Sri RangarAjasthavam.

3. In the 102nd verse , Bhattar once again performs SaraNAgathi this way:

"I have been made your burden and responsibility (Bhara) by my AchAryAs . I have also orally declared that I seek refuge. Therefore, it behoves You to accept me as your entrusted burden".

4. In his ashtaslOki, the verses 6,7 and 8 deal with Prapatthi. Sixth verse is about the Prapatthi to Sri Devi as the means to the end of resorting to the Lord. In the 7th slokam, he explains the meaning of Carama SlOkam. In the 8th verse, he declares his prapatthi, " where he expresses his inability to implement the Karma, Jnaana and Bhakthi yogAs as means of salvation. Even regarding Prapatthi, he is unable to follow it because of his utter helplessness and lack of firm conviction of its implementation. Still the hope of being saved by the Lord, He being the final means, sustains him ".

Sri D. Rajagopalachariar Swami will head the Paundarikapuram Ashramam in Srirangam. He will be the ninth Jeer of the Ashramam and is a great scholar in Sanskrit, Tamil and Hindi. He is an ardent follower of the eighth Jeer of the Ashramam, Paravakottai Gopala Desika Mahadesikan Swamigal who passed away on November 12.

Sri Rajagopalachariar Swamigal was born on April 27, 1931 in Vaduvur village in Thanjavur district.

Sri Swamigal, popularly known as ‘Royapuram Swamigal,' started learning Sanskrit in KRM Estate Patasala in Mannargudi. After four years of training, he joined the Raja Veda Dharma Patasala in Kumbakonam for advanced study in Sanskrit. He later joined the Madras Sanskrit College in Mylapore and graduated as 'Sahitya Siromani'.

Learning Hindi

During this period, he also learnt Hindi and qualified in the Visharadh examination. He also passed the Tamil Vidwan course.

Sri Swamigal served as Tamil teacher for ten years in Sethupathi High School, Madurai. Later he shifted to New Delhi to serve as a Tamil teacher in New Delhi Tamil School.

During his stay there, Sri Swamigal was conferred the titles “Sahithya Ratna” from Haridwar Ashrama Swami, “Vidyabhooshana” from Gujarat Vidyapeet and “Ramayana Kathabivarshaka” from Harinagar Tamil Association.

After serving in New Delhi for 30 years, he came to Srirangam and had his Grantha Chathustaya Kalakshepam under the Holy Feet of Srimad Paravakkottai Andavan of Srimad Poundarikapuram Swami Asramam.

Srimad Paravakkottai Andavan was pleased with his services and gave him an opportunity for ‘Bhikshai kainkaryam and also conferred the title “Acharya Seva Durandhara” on Sri Swamigal. He had the honour of doing kainkaryam in the Thiruneermalai Asramam and Bangalore Asramam for some time.

He has authored the books, “Thulasidasarum avar tham arulvaakkum”; “Thiruppavai – Godastuthi” ; “Sudarsana Satakam – Commentary”.

He had participated in the Vidwat Sadas conducted under the auspices of the Ashramam. He had assisted Srimad Paravakkottai Andavan in the publications of the Asramam like Srimad Rahasyatrayasaram, Chillarai Rahasyangal and Ramapiranai Karpom.

The religious rituals will be performed on January 30, 2012, when Sri Swamigal will be the Jeer and head the Ashramam

SIGNIFICANCE OF KAISIKA EKADASI & DWADASI
In our Sri Vaishnava Sampradaya every Ekadasi (the 11th day of bright & black fortnight) has a special name. Accordingly during the Krittika month, the Ekadasi during the bright fortnight is called Kaishika Ekadasi (today some use the term Koushika Ekadasi, which is wrong; Sage Vishwamitra has nothing to do with this Ekadasi). Kaishika is a raga in music. How is this raga related with this Ekadasi will become clear in the course of this article!

Sri Varaha Puranam has this episode in its body. Once upon a time the earth got submerged in water. Lord Sriman Narayana assumed the garb of a wild boar and without hesitation entered the muddy water and brought out the earth from the deluge. Sri Bhoomi Piratti, who is the presiding deity, was very much upset by this tragic event. She was consoled and comforted by Lord Sriman Narayana, keeping Her on His lap. At that time she was very much worried about Her children on the earth. Their sufferings gave Her great sorrow and she desired to know a means (Upaya) for their deliverance from the worldly bondage. The Lord narrated the episode that took place in the village Thirukkurungudi near Thirunelveli in South India and assured Her that the sole means of salvation is singing His glory (Gana Rupa Upayam).

The story is as follows: Once there lived a man at Thirukkurungudi. He was fondly called Nampaduvan” (We do not know his Original name). He was born in a Chandala family who were known for their merciless nature and activities. But quite contrary to his family behavior he was very pious and deeply devoted to Lord Sriman Narayana. He used to fast during every Ekadasi day. Getting up very early in the morning on the next day he used to go to the vicinity of the temple with his veena in his hands and remaining at a distance from the temple as per the prescription of the shastras he used to sing songs in praise of the Lord going around the temple.


Once during the month of Krittika on a bright fortnight Dwadasi i.e the 12th day, he went to the temple early in the morning as usual. On the way he was met by a Brahma Rakshasa who was very hungry and who therefore expressed his desire to eat him up. Nampaduvan was very happy to offer his body for the food of Brahma Rakshasa. That was because his suffering in this world would come to an end and he would reach the abode of the Lord. But he prayed to the Brahma Rakshasa to spare some time so that he may go to the temple and sing the songs and return. But the Rakshasa was not ready to grant his request, as he would never return having made this false excuse. But Nampaduvan made 18 oaths to the effect that he would certainly return.
1.           If I do not return as per my promise let me get the sin of a man who is a liar.
2.           Let me get the sin of a person who commits adultery, if I don’t return.
3.           While eating in the company of a person if a man differentiates in menu (i.e. serving inferior or less quantity of food to the guest), he gets a great sin (Papam). Let me get that sin, if I don’t return.
4.           If a man donates a piece of an earth to a Brahmin and takes it back after some time he will certainly accrue sin. Let me get that sin, if I don’t return.
5.           If a man enjoys the company of a woman during her youthful age and subsequently rejects her when she becomes old he is sure to get sin. Let me get that sin, if I don’t return.
6.           Having performed ablution rite (Tharpanam) on Amavasya day and then recourse (physical relationship) to his wife the same day, he will entertain great sin. Let me get that sin, if I don’t return.
7.           Having dined delicious dishes in the house of a host and then if a person showers heaps of abuse on his host, he is sure to meet with great sin. Let me get that sin, if I don’t return.
8.           A man makes a solemn promise that he would give away his young daughter in marriage to a youth but later on breaks his promise, which would entertain sin. Let me get that sin, if I don’t return.
9.           A man is prohibited from eating without taking bath on Shashti (the sixth day of both fortnight), Ashtami (the eighth day), Chaturdashi (the fourteenth day) and Amavasya (the fifteenth day of bright fortnight). Let me get that sin, if I don’t return.
10.     A man promises to donate something to another man but he doesn’t keep up his promise. Let me get the sin of breach of promise if I fail to come back.
11.     If a person tries to allure the wife of a friend who has helped him in manifold ways, he is sure of reaching hell. I will get that sin, if I fail to return.
12.     If a person, afflicted by lust, enjoys the company of his revered teacher’s wife who is responsible for his salvation; and so also the company of the wife of a king who endows all worldly pleasure to him - he will be the worst sinner. I will suffer that sin by not keeping up my promise.
13.     A man marries two girls without being impartial to both of them. If he evinces greater pleasure in the company of one rejecting the other, he is sure to accrue very great sin. Let me get that sin, if I don’t keep up my promise.
14.     If a man divorces his wife who is very chaste and has no one to care for her, he will become a sinner. Let me be equated to him for not returning.
15.     If a man causes obstruction to the cattle that are afflicted very much by thirst to drink water, he will get a sin. Let me also get that sin by breaking your faith in me.
16.     Killing a Brahmin, addiction to liquor, stealing gold, breaking a vow are considered to be heinous crimes. Severe punishments are prescribed for a sinner, who commits all these crimes. Let me suffer all these punishments in case I fail to get back to you.
17.     If some people worship only other deities and not Sri Vasudeva who is easily accessible to His votaries and is Omnipresent, they will get a great sin. Let me get that sin, if I do not return.

18.     Sriman Narayana is the supreme deity. He is the inner soul for all created beings, both sentient and insentient. He is worshipped by all karmas (i.e. by all holy rites prescribed by the Shastras). He is to be meditated by all who are desirous of liberation. He alone has the ability to grant salvation. He is to be reached by all the liberated souls. Having understood the supreme qualities of the Lord, if a man equates Him to all other angels who are bound by karma, He will be born in this world again and again. Let me get that sin by breach of this promise.
All these promises did not convince or satisfy the Brahma Rakshasa, but the 18th one totally convinced him about the certainty of Nampaduvan’s return. We therefore have to understand that the last sin is the greatest sin of all sins. Hence it is to be meticulously avoided.

The Brahma Rakshas became pleased by all these promises and saluted Nampaduvan and bade him farewell so that he may fulfill his vow and come back to him.
Accordingly Nampaduvan went to the neighborhood of the temple and sang the songs as usual. Afterwards the day dawned. Having completed the vow pertaining to Ekadasi (i.e. spending sleepless night) Nampaduvan surrendered to the Lord. With great speed, he returned to the Rakshas as his heart was filled up with pleasure owing to his desertion of his body, which was inimical to his attaining salvation.
On his way a person met him. That man questioned him “Hello, where are you going with such speed?” Nampaduvan replied him in a sweet manner – “I am going to Brahma Rakshas. If I don’t find him where I met him before, and departed having made several promises, I will go in search of him and offer my body as food for him.”
That man desired to test his mind on hearing his steadfast resolve. He said "There stands a Rakshasa by birth. He is not righteous minded like Vibeeshana, but a worst criminal. You cannot escape from his cruel clutches, as he is a cannibal. Don’t go to that strong devil." Though exhorted by that man, Nampaduvan refused to listen to him and was very adamant in keeping up his promise. That stranger, who obstructed him and advised him, was none other than Sri Varaha (the Lord Himself). Nampaduvan found Brahma Rakshas at the same place and offered his body as a carcass (meat) for him, but the Rakshas, remembering his previous birth did not accept it. He narrated his previous life history. He was a Brahmin by name Somasarma in his former birth. While performing a sacrifice, he committed all sorts of blunder, as he was niggardly. Moreover a fatal disease in the course of performing sacrifice afflicted him. The result was his birth as Brahma Rakshasa.
Having given a detailed account of his previous life the Rakshasa knelt before Nampaduvan to grant him the merit of all these songs that he sang in praise of the Lord for a long time but the songster refused sternly. Finally being moved by pity he granted him the merit (Punya) of one song, which he sang that day morning which was in the raga named “Kaishika”. The Brahma Rakshas was relieved of his bond. Later he was born in a family of Vaishnava and at the end of the birth he reached Vaikunta.
This is the story narrated by Sri Varaha Perumal to Sri Bhoomi Devi. The whole episode as found in “Sri Varaha Puranam”, is taken up by Sri Parasara Bhattar for an elaborate commentary in Tamil. Every year the whole episode with all Sanskrit shlokas and commentary of Sri Bhattar is read out in all the Vishnu temples especially at Thirukkurungudi where the event actually took place. This is enacted on the stage even today. Those who take part in the festival or who hear the episode will be rid of their sins. Hence I gave this story in an abridged version.
What do we understand from this episode? Somasarma though a Brahmin became a Rakshasa, but Nampaduvan though a Chandala was able to expiate him of all his sins. Hence caste is not a criterion for us to salute a person. His deep devotion to the Lord, knowledge of the Lord and a total renunciation of all worldly pleasures are very important criteria. The caste is physical. It does not belong to the soul. Hence Nampaduvan was elevated to the highest order. In case of such holy men of that high order, consideration of the caste is an offence. They are equal to Nithyasooris. Hence our Acharyas equate Nampaduvan with Vishwamitra, Sri Vishnuchitta and ThondarAdiPodi Azhwar, all of whom sang divine songs in order to wake up the Lord (Thiruppalliyezhuchchi). The Lord (Sri Varaha) also showered on him love and affection and called him Nampaduvan (My Singer). Let us therefore be very careful in not committing Bhaagavata Apachara. This is what we learn from Kaishika Puranam.

Satvika Thyagam - Explanation.
This is discussed and explained many times in many groups and forums.
To recall it, I am giving it in simple terms?!.

Here in this phrase there are two words:
1. Satvikam - a desiarable attribute
2. Thyagam - giving up (leaving)

We know there are three types fo gunas 1.Satvikam, 2.Rajasam 3.Thamasam and the first one is the best one.

We are knowingly or unknowingly / purposefully or purposelessly always doing actions.
If the action is in the boundary of dharma we get some punyam and when in the boundary of adharma we get phapam.
We must enjoy the fruit of our action, to enjoy the fruits of our karma
repeatedly we are getting birth.
When one understands the truth as "getting birth is worst and attaining moksha is the best" then
he goes to an Acharya and apply for Sharanagathi.

He will continue to do karmas even after getting Sharanagathi.
what will happen for the phalans of those karmas?
Here the acharyan insists his shishyas to do the "Satvika thyagam" after sharanagathi
Every karma consists of three attributes:
1. Karthruthvam - doer(performer) of the karma
2. Mamatha - Owner of the karma
3. Phalan - Beneficiery of the karma
Any one of the above attibute leads to get Rajasa, Thamasa Ahankaras
by leaving those ahankaras (egos) one is getting pure satvika.
How to leave those ahankaras?
By uttering hole heartedly the 'Satvika Thyaga' Mantra before and after every karma
one could leave those ahankaras and he will not affected by the karma.

The Satvika thyaga mantra is the essence of sri Swami Desikan's "Nyasa Dasakam"

'aham mathrakshanabharo mathrakshana phalam thatha
na mama sripaterevaityatmanam nikshibet budha:'

Swami Sri Desikan has blessed us with many granthams on the doctrines of
nyAsam or Prapatthi. One of the most substantive and short sthuthi on the
subject of nyAsam consists of ten verses and is known as nyAsa dasakam.
Because of the importance of this work as the distilled essence of the
principles of nyAsam and the method of performance of nyAsam,
VaishNavAs recite nyAsa dasakam at their homes during their daily
ThiruvArAdhanam for Sriman NaarAyaNan
Sri nyAsa dasakam is associated with the Prapatthi that Swami Sri Desikan
performed at the sacred feet of Kanchi VaradarAjan. The ten slOkams
comprising this short sthOthra grantham covers the following topics:

The method of performing nyAsam or Bhara SamarpaNam

The five limbs of nyAsam
♦
The method of enacting sAthvika thyAgam
♦
earth
His prayer to the Lord for mOksham at the end of his life on His

Swami Sri Desikan elaborated further the glories of the doctrines of nyAsam
in his other granthams such as Sri nyAsa vimsati, Sri nyAsa tilakam,
SaraNaagathi deepikai, adaikkala patthu, mummaNik kovai, anjali vaibhavam,
abhaya pradhAna sAram, Rahasya sikhAmaNi and in his magnum opus, Srimadh
Rahasya traya Saaram. The significance of nyAsa dasakam however is due to
the clarity and brevity with which our AchAryan summarized in just ten
slOkAs, the essence of nyAsam or bhara samarpaNam.
adiyEn will have a brief meaning for the slOkams first and add Sriman N.
KrishNamAchAri’s comments as an addendum. This will be followed by detailed
commentaries on individual slOkams by five commentators (Sri BhAshya
SrinivAsAcchAr, Sri GopAla TatAcchAr, Sri Saila TatAcchAr, Sri V.N.
SrirAma DesikAcchAr and Dr.V. N. Vedantha Desikan Swamy.
Next section will contain an elaborate introduction from Sri Saila TatAcchAr
Swamy, who is one of the five commentators.

Ramayana is an unfathomable epic of eternal character. The life and culture of our country revolve round this great epic. The Ramayana is the first work of poetry outside the Vedic literature. To the scholars it is poetry unparalleled, for the artists it is a drama unsurpassed with a variety of emotions to the refined it is a work of righteousness (Dharma), for seekers it is the royal path to liberation and in a nutshell it is history, geography, ethnology, astronomy, music and the art of warfare.
